Democrats miss Iraq milestones [The Enemy Within]
Times Union ^ | Nov. 14, 2005 | Kathryn Lopez

Posted on 11/14/2005 5:51:58 AM PST by conservativecorner

The majority of Senate Democrats supported the war that would take down the evil tyrant Saddam Hussein in Iraq, and give his oppressed people a chance at democracy. But you would never know that by listening to many of these fair- weathered war supporters lately. You'd almost think it's a shame poor Saddam Hussein is standing trial later this month. But the second-guessing of the White House's reasons for going into Iraq exposes their own selective memories on prewar matter.

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years."

No, that's not a quote from President Bush, who the party line from Democrats in Congress would have you believe is a liar and was determined to get on with his father's unfinished business in Iraq, facts be damned. The quote comes from West Virginia Democrat Sen. Jay Rockefeller.

On Oct. 10, 2002, Rockefeller argued on the Senate floor in favor of going to war with Iraq. Yet now, Rockefeller has been more recently seen accusing the White House of lying to get us into a war with Saddam Hussein.

So what, you may ask. Now Senate Dems want to get Bush and start winning elections again (and get a Senate majority back next November) -- so they're being selective about their memories as they try to find something that works for them. It's a politics of media convenience, changing with the cable-news-image winds. Big whoop. It's a Washington pastime.

Well, it does matter. It matters to the men and women who are over in Iraq right now -- the ones that both George Bush and the majority of the Democratic gang sent there. It matters to many families of those who have died serving in the war on terror. (Even if antiwar activist mom Cindy Sheehan gets more press time.)

A lot of the stories you see on the evening news about Iraq are pretty bad. Suicide bombings. Two thousand American soldiers dead. Many of these are completely legitimate news stories, but they are often covered with a lack of a sense and balance. For people who work day in and day out in Iraq, this is a demoralizing injustice and not an argument about who sent them to Iraq.

We have a record in Iraq, imperfect as it is, of progress. The purple-ink stained fingers of Iraqis who voted for their own constitution last month is not a sidebar story, it's a feature. And a milestone event in the region. For Democrats to want to pretend there was never a good reason for us to go into Iraq, and to claim there is nothing good happening there is a disservice to those who have died there and to every American who continues to serve there. Such manipulation is demoralizing to our guys and gals, to the Iraqis fighting for their future, and every freedom-loving man and woman living under an oppressor the world over.

A free Iraq is better for the security of the United States and the world. Yet the moonbats are so idiotic that they think we'd be better off with Saddam Hussein in power. Pinheads.

Bush needs to remind the American Public that he was criticized for "not connecting the dots" after 9-ll.

You have to read Ann Coulter's "Treason" to understand the liberal mindset.

Yep, Abu Ghraib made it for 29 days on the NY Times front page while the Iraqi elections I don't think made it. And the MSM wants the French Intifada to go away.

yep...the media /Rats, (same thing), need to be mocked and ridiculed and not listened to or taken seriously.
Thats why we seek out more responsible news services and a broader look into things. The average joe schmoe doesn't have a clue with the MSM pumping out their garbage.

Two thousand American soldiers dead.

2000 people die each year in "roadside accidents"...
(A roadside accident is classified as someone standing on the side of a road, and getting killed by a passing car)

Someday, the number of total casualties for the other side will be discovered and it is going to stun everyone. Quietly in the background, you read small articles that are never picked up by the MSM that announce 45 dead, 57 dead, 23 dead, 125 dead and this goes on day after day after day.

While the media focuses on US casualties, they never seen to extend the numbers for the other side. I figure we're up around 50,000 of the bad guys with another 100,000 captured. That's a LOT of nutcases that have been taken out of circulation. I understand the hesitation of the pentagon to release figures, but we should certainly be smart enough to figure it out.

Democrats are idiots who celebrate the demise of Americans and America's power.

It never ceases to amaze me to think how the politicians can and will say anything for their purpose no matter what that purpose is and not blink an eye as to what cost was paid and still paying so that they can say what they say.
They go to sleep at night thinking how they can get one over on someone else or get more power and money because of people dying or how they can use it to their advantage.

Not to mention the fact that the Democratic party's ability to turn America against persevering represents the last chance for the jihad.

It is such an irony that the Arab street has already soured to the senseless killing but the American left is apparently desirous of more.

Another oft told democrat lie is that there was no 'exit strategy'. The strategy, from the start, was to eliminate Saddam, establish a democracy and get them on their feet, then leave. I was intensely interested in what the plan was because my youngest was on a camping trip with his friends at the time(Camp New York, Kuwait).

If the Democrats wimp-out fighting terrorists in Iraq, half way around the world, how could we ever trust them to keep us safe here at home!?

They would cut and run to the suburbs and leave the cities vulnerable.

I read the other day day that 'President Bush is learning the hard way that democracy doesn't travel well...' I'm exasperated. 60-80% of Afghanis and Iraqi's have risked their lives in a total of 4 elections. We don't even get into those kind of numbers on a good day in the west.

Has the MSM really thrown with the small violent minority that make up the insurgencies/terrorist base in these countries? Why don't they just throw in with the KKK and the Nazi party party while they are at it? These, too, are small violent minorities who don't believe in democracy...
