"I think it is funny that a program to end racism would start with the assumption that all white people are the same because of their skin color alone and therefore equally responsible."

A most excellent point!

The soul of America was cleansed in a little conflict called the Civil War.

Throughout the 20th century we went one step further and cleansed out the entire body of America. It was as though we'd taken an overdose of ex-lax trying to purge the racial 'injustices' from our system.

In other words...enough of this sh** already. You try to take the money? Consider that a wrongful confiscation of private property and prepare for CWII.

Reparations in a nutshell: taking money from those who have commited no wrong; giving it to those who have not been wronged.

With all the problems going on in this world, this movement needs to be crushed as ruthlessly as possible.

"How about a free one way ticket to the African Country of their choice."

I agree..
You see plenty of blacks complaining, but you never can find any that want to go home.

Blacks in the US are the luckiest people on Earth.

I'm amazed she has the brain power to remember to breathe.

Fortunately this is a function of the autonomic portion of the nervous system, otherwise I feel sure she would forget to breath. If my memory serves me correct tax dollars come from the citizens that pay. THAT MEANS ME!

The fact that the nation was far smaller in population during the civil war also makes the percentage of the population killed and injured in battle huge. It was an ugly ugly war, but one that had to be fought. The war is over and the reparations have been paid in full. The currency was blood, destruction, despair, and death. The balance due is ZERO!

To buy the case for reparations, and a host of other things like affirmative action, you have to believe in the following things:

a) That there is such a thing as collective, historical guilt.

b) That otherwise rational people would suddenly take leave of their sense when their pocketbooks were being opened.

c) That if reparations were ever paid, that the "black community" in this country would cease all talk of grieveance.

I, for one, am perfectly positive that if reparations should ever be paid to American blacks, we will be innundated within a month with numerous news stories about people who were totally irresponsible with that money and, who would be crying that their own stupidity was somehow the (take your pick) government's, society's or Whitey's fault, and that they should be given more. This would merely the result of successive generations being taught that they need no sense of responsibility or propriety and for whom the outstretched hand is a reflex action.

I'm thinking the worst offenders would be those who would invest in the Gold-plated Nikes, Platinum tooth caps, diamond-studded Cadillac bumpers, or Danish Modern Crackhouse furniture that would be sure to follow such an infusion of cash into the ghetto.

No, they're dupes. However, reparations is all about the money, and not only the money reparations would bring. People and groups advocating reparations may not themselves believe it will ever happen, but it sure makes a good living demanding it.

There's really only one way to make reparations: Whites must give themselves in slavery to blacks for the next 250 years. Anything less will be insufficient, and just cause for the "next step".

Reparations is a word that is often mis-used and really misunderstood. Reparations have to do with making someone whole after a great injustice has been done to them while they are still alive and complaining, and a court decides that some money or restoration of property is in order.

This half-cocked notion that decendants of any society, slave or otherwise, are entitled to anything for the wrongs done to their ancestors is preposterous. The first time I heard the word applied to a situation was when the Allied Powers saw fit to take material, ideas, technology, plans, equipment and so forth from a defeated enemy. World War II is the best example, when the British and others took things from the defeated Germans as part payment for the financial losses they incurred in the battle. Nope, no money or other apologies for anything that happened before any of us were born. That any of us perpetuated an intolerable situation for any other Americans is just plain crazy. My family's situation was quite intolerable, but most of us picked ourselves up and got to work, made a life for ourselves, and went on with things. The old concept of working hard, expecting little, doing good and trusting in God is really all you need to succeed in life. If you want to sit there, be housed and fed and educated by others, then you have no voice in this society. You will be tolerated, but you will never win respect or be heard. Gosh, isn't life a bitch??????

How bout 1 TRILLION in welfare a decade for the last 45 years. 4.5 TRILLION wasted dollars. That's about all the reparations your gonnna get.

I am wondering if we should just pay each black family of four $100,000 in reparations, but then say "that's it" and gut every social program in federal and state government.

I realize poor whites would get shafted in this deal but maybe it's gotta be worth it.

I do not think that this statement plausibly explains the motivations of the members of the mentioned group, CURE. After all, they do not stand to receive any money.

I noticed that although they "set out" to do something about reparations, they didn't actually DO anything about it. It was just a forum to run their liberal mouths, as per usual. I'm proud to be an EX-episcopalian.

At that point it is time to dissolve the government and start over, preferably with a parliamentary form of government, or at least with SOME form of proportional representation where our representatives don't become less and less answerable to the people the larger the country grows.
