Kirk picked to head moderate group
U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk, R-10th, has been chosen to head a group of moderate Republicans in the House of Representatives. A coalition of 35 Republican members of the House elected Kirk and Rep. Charles Bass of New Hampshire to co-chair the Mainstream Republican Tuesday Group in the 109th Congress.
"I think the spirit of the Republican Party should be anti-corruption, pro-defense, pro-personal responsibility and pro-education, and my leadership of this group is part of the effort (to ensure) that the party is grounded in those principles," said Kirk of Highland Park.
Kirk portrayed himself as a moderate Republican during his successful bid for re-election in the 10th District against Democrat Lee Goodman.
Kirk said the Mainstream Republican group will push for stronger environmental legislation, promote a strong national defense including support of key allies like Israel, and support medical liability and malpractice reform.
Kirk said his group will work closely with the Republican National Committee and the Republican Main Street Partnership on developing a strategy to address the needs and concerns of suburban voters. He said results from the 2004 election show suburban voters far outnumber urban or rural voters.
Kirk's leadership of the moderate group threatens to put him at odds with some party leaders. When House Republicans voted to change House ethics rules to protect House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's leadership post in the event DeLay, R-Texas, is indicted for violating fund-raising laws in Texas, Kirk and other members of the moderate Republican group voted against the rule changes.
Barf alert?
Yes this would meet that standard and then some
I guess it's early. I was sure that someone would post a pic of William Shatner in Trek costume.
Well it looks like McCain & Co. have managed to set up a Gang Of Idiots in the House.
Thirty-five Republicans who the party should find a conservative to run against in the primaries. Sadly, nothing will happen to them.
Like this?
What's good about this rino revolt is that now they are all out in the open. They have picked a fight with conservative voters by calling that press conference.
The rinos that are the most hard to accept are the ones in strong gop districts. Schwarz of Michigan and Beauchert come to mind. Boehlert of NY is another one that has been targeted by the club for growth. A no name conservative ran against in 02 and almost beat him. Any conservative out there with any money could send him packing. He got lucky because the big wig dems in albany kept his home base in the district. But the southern half of his district hates his guts for some indian land deals he did.
Freshman Schwarz and ACU rating of 36 Boehlert should be the top two rino targets.
Pork barrel and Constituent Service wing of the Republican party. Marvelous.

These are those who are responsible for ANWR being removed from the budget bill. Rep. Mark Kirk is one of them.
Moderates are making their move for control of the Republican party. They are receiving support from Soros!!!
