2008 GOP Primary: Giuliani 26% Rice 24% McCain 21% (Rasmussen)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | November 13, 2005

November 12, 2005--Unlike the Democrats, there is no clear frontrunner for the Republican Party's 2008 Presidential nomination.

Three candidates, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and Senator John McCain all are favored by more than 20% of GOP voters. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist are the only other Republicans to reach the 5% level of support.

McCain is the leader among the minority of Republicans with an unfavorable opinion of George W. Bush.

If the three leading candidates do not run, "Not Sure" takes over the Republican lead at 30%. In that scenario, Gingrich is the top choice for 27% of Republicans and Frist is next at 11%.

Senator Chuck Hagel, Senator George Allen, and Congressman Tom Tancredo were also included in the survey. None of them reached the 5% level of support.

A plurality of Rice supporters favor Gingrich if the Secretary of State is not in the running. A plurality of both the McCain and Giuliani supporters move to the Not Sure category.

New York Governor George Pataki attracts more of Giuliani's vote than any other Republican.

A separate survey conducted earlier this year found both McCain and Giuliani leading the Democrat's frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

During Election 2004, RasmussenReports.com was also the top-ranked public opinion research site on the web. We had twice as many visitors as our nearest competitor and nearly as many as all competitors combined.

Name recognition....I agree.

Guilianni will not win the primaries.

The conservative is not yet known, but it's pretty clear it won't be Rice or McCain.

I'm sorry I read 'asshole' instead of 'asshat'.

But that's hardly relevant.

You start out your reply to me with "assuming you aren't a liberal" and you think you have the right to say what's relevant?

I was wrong about you. You're not an asshat. You're a blithering idiot.

I've always liked Newt. He's a common sense Conservative Economist. To me those two ingrediants are key to sound national and international policies.

I am reading his book now, _Winning the Future_. The guy is a genius and his platform is a real winner. But from the posts here it is clear that as conservatives he has left a bad taste in our mouths (not to mention being demonized, tarred and feathered by the Dems).

Newt left office after placing a huge "Kick Me" sign on his back and I'm not sure that'll ever come off.

When the North Vietnamese discovered he was the son and grandson of admirals, he was offered a chance to go home, but he refused to break the military code that POWs be released in the order that they are captured.

You don't consider this "preferential" treatment huh? He also received hospital care after they found out they might benefit politically. Again, you don't see this as preferential? How many other POW's were refused treatment because they were not what the NV considered likely to help them in their efforts with the US government. If they offered this, I think it is safe to assume they did not put him thru some of the other atrocities suffered by our POW's. There are certainly worse horror stories that came out the POW camps than what McCain went thru and they didn't abandon their brothers because of political ambitions. Sure makes me think perhaps he had it better than most during his stay at the "Hilton".

Explain to me, how and why he turned on his fellow Vets trying to expose Kerry as the blowhard he is? Not what I consider honorable behavior from someone who used their Nam experience to vault them into political life.

This of course is my opinion. I always try to err on the side of men who hold their honor to be more important than votes. I'm just funny that way. I have always found it odd for a man to be more involved with his ambitions than with the brotherhood practiced by those who shared this terrible ordeal.
