November 12, 2005--Unlike the Democrats, there is no clear frontrunner for the Republican Party's 2008 Presidential nomination.
Three candidates, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and Senator John McCain all are favored by more than 20% of GOP voters. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist are the only other Republicans to reach the 5% level of support.
McCain is the leader among the minority of Republicans with an unfavorable opinion of George W. Bush.
If the three leading candidates do not run, "Not Sure" takes over the Republican lead at 30%. In that scenario, Gingrich is the top choice for 27% of Republicans and Frist is next at 11%.
Senator Chuck Hagel, Senator George Allen, and Congressman Tom Tancredo were also included in the survey. None of them reached the 5% level of support.
A plurality of Rice supporters favor Gingrich if the Secretary of State is not in the running. A plurality of both the McCain and Giuliani supporters move to the Not Sure category.
New York Governor George Pataki attracts more of Giuliani's vote than any other Republican.
CrossTabs are available for Premium Members.
A separate survey conducted earlier this year found both McCain and Giuliani leading the Democrat's frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

"Rice = too anti-Semitic"
I disagree with you on that. I think you have bought into some liberal spin on that one. I would encourage you to look into that a little more before making such a provacative statement.
Back at ya. I follow the Sec State's comments on Israel VERY closely. I am the one who is informed on this one.

Huh? Get back to me after you come down from your LSD high.
Pay attention to Israel and what is going on the terrorist front and you may change your tune. Dr. Rice is the worse thing for Israel and us in the W.O.T. since 1921. Only C.F.R. types think she is doing a good job in the Middle East.

I'd love to see a Giuliani-Rice ticket. Both can be completely trusted to carry out the War on Terror--THE most important issue of our time. What's more, and unlike so many of the other names often listen here at FR, they would win.

Please expound your facts to the rest of us regarding Dr. Rice. Further, please post your resume, so we can compare and contrast yours to Dr. Rice's.

If Rice announced today that she decided to run that would be the end of it.
She beats all other candidates by double digits, no matter what this poll says. She is the last person the democrats want to get the Republican nomination.
Other then the few skin heads and Good Ol' Boys pretty much everyone else would fall in line behind her.
Gulianni I don't think is as strong as many believe and McCain is dead Republican candidate walking. He wouldn't make it out of New Hampshire. He has pissed of too many for too long.

Only C.F.R. types think she is doing a good job in the Middle East. Syria has pulled out of Lebannon, Iran is surrounded, Iraq is overthrown, and now Jordan is feeling the heat of terrorism. It's open season on terrorists, and murmurs for reform and change are increasing in the Arab world.
Doesn't really seem to me that Israel is in that bad of shape at the moment, as far as regional threats go. There's still a long road ahead, but at least you're not wandering alone in the desert like when the good Dr Rice and company found you.

"Rudy may well be a RINO, but he would at least carry on the work of President Bush with the WOT. In my humble opinion, that issue trumps every other at this time. If we don't win this one, all of the other issues are moot."NOTHING "trumps" our 2nd Amendment rights! That Gun-Grabbing Abortionist pro-homo Yankee from New York City can dance in Hell with Hillary Clinton. What was it that Ben Franklin said about those who would give up essential liberty for temporary security?
