By not responding to the Dims all this time, Bush has allowed them to go way, way out on a limb. Each and every time one of their lies has gone unchallenged, the Dims have surmised it was safe to go further out on that limb. What we are seeing now is Bush sawing off that limb.

It's strategery. The Dims have had their say, spewing out nothing but lies. From now until the midterms next year, their flip-flops and lies will be exposed, and they'll be on the ropes and on the defensive the whole time.

Ah strategery. Back in the 80s, the New England Patriots used a similar game plan, the "lull'em" tactic: for three Quarters they'd play horribly; then, in the fourth Quarter, they'd leap onto their unwary opponents and reduce them to rubble. Three Quarters of the time, it worked.

Sure, Laz, but this rope-a-dope thing has helped to crystalize opposition to President Bush as weak and ineffectual. This has hurt the war effort and made him begin his rebuilding from a much lower point than otherwise.

I don't think that rope-a-dope should be the only response that the Republicans can ever make. Sometimes they should punch back hard, and fast.

"What we are seeing now is Bush sawing off that limb."

We can only pray.

The future of the Republic depends on it.
