When I saw the headline I figured the seller had to be someone on eBay!

The land may be a deal if it allows lake privileges, that is depending on the lake.

A gold mine? A diamond mine? What the....? $7 billion for an acre? Oh, it's New Jersey, the home of the late great Frank Sinatra and the Sapranos.

Officials think the tiny piece of land west of Bloomington was deeded to someone in the 1960s, when people had to own property to use a nearby lake.

I see now, the key word had. No wonder no one bid on it, the lake now has public access.

Wonder what the property taxes would be on that parcel of land?

That's what my Texas county tax assessor thinks our lot is worth, too.

We have friends considering a move to Texas (from CA)...can you give a quick tutorial on the property tax situation there? I'd pass it along to them.

Back when the TV show "Dallas" was big, I drove by the real "Southfork Ranch" in Plano Tx. They had a stack of real estate forms on the gate, offering to sell one square foot parcels of "Southfork Ranch" for some modest sum.
Pretty funny. Wonder who own's them now?

My deepest and most heartfelt apologies to the most noble and respectable businessmen of New Jersey. I will take your napkin with my bare hand and wipe your mouth for you before placing it in my pocket. [Offering a light for your cigar.]

But I must tell you, I HATE Frank's music.

DHum seems like I recall the Davy Crockett Homestead was sold in 1 inch plots, I have aftem wondered what happened to those plots of land.

Depending on which county you are in Texas the taxes will vary a lot. My real estate taxes on 180,000 valuation is about 3000 dollars a year. I do not live in town. If you live in an incorporated city you will probably have to add about 500 dollars to the figure.
We do not have an income tax but our sales taxes will average about 8.25%. Our real estate and sales taxes are above average but when you consider income tax in California and all the other taxes we are much lower than California.

I realize you ask someone else but living in Texas has given us pause to contemplate the property tax situation. Just some pondering ... comparing states with income tax and property tax ... in an income tax state you have to pay on your income and you have no input as to the outcome of what you pay. The state sets the tax rate and you pay it. In a property tax state you have a choice as to the price of a home you buy and thus directly impact what you pay in prop taxes. If you do not want to pay giant prop taxes, don't buy a house valued at 500K (which gets someone a whopping amazing house in north Texas).
Texans - demand property tax reform!

We have friends considering a move to Texas (from CA)...can you give a quick tutorial on the property tax situation there?Ten years ago, our property tax was equal to about two weeks of pay. Today, it takes nearly TWO MONTHS of my paycheck. Yes, same property and same job (including a couple promotions over the years).

I'm not a real fan of Frank either, but my amazon parrot just loves to listen to him sing.
And thanks for the light, this Don Carlos Double Robusto is perfect for a Sunday morn.
