Empower states and local authorities to enforce immigration laws.Under Section 287(G) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1996, state and local law enforcement agencies can request the authority to enforce immigration law in their jurisdictions. Guess how many actually do that?
Also, under federal statute 8 U.S.C. Section 1623, also adopted in 1996, any state that offers discounted, in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens on the basis of their residence in the state must offer the same discounted rates to all U.S. citizens. Guess how many are doing that?
Our main problem isn't that we need more laws, it's that we need to start enforcing the ones we already have.

As an outsider (Canadian) looking in at this problem I can only come to 2 possibilities:
A) There really isn't a border problem and the entire situation has been exaggerated
B) The Bush Administration for some reason unknown to us all, has decided NOT to deal with the problem.
The figure I have heard is upwards of 6 million Mexican immigrants live in the US illegally. Unless that stat is pure fabrication, this is a serious problem. I have racked my brain and cannot come up with a reason that Bush is ignoring this?
