Do you all have any idea how dreary life is in France, especially the suburbs? For me that's the elephant, or part of it. It's 8pm, the café/tabac, the bakery and the grocer have just closed. That's it. The town is closed. The streets are dead and street lights dimmed. The French are sitting round the table, in front of the blaring TV, watching the news and eating. Often there are two TVs at each end of the table so everyone can see. In Paris (inside the walls), on the high streets, it's a little better, more international, more animated, and more expensive. But, where do you park?
You may say it's the same in the States, but it's not. In the States you've got music bars that are not expensive, pubs, tons of 24/7 coffee shops, gyms open late. I used to play tennis at midnight. You can go for a drive, see the lights, go parking. Having fun isn't expensive in America. In France it costs. I doubt if you could find one 24/7 coffee shop in France, (oh yea, on the highways, way out of town). There are no drive-ins, few fast food places, no large club/bars with plenty of parking. There is nothing for young people to do. It's a sad country of sad people.
And you know, it's a big step up from North Africa and Arabia.

Most of this analysis makes no sense when you are talking about teenagers. Even the unemployment and discrimination arguments fail in the face of the 80% who have jobs and the 99% who do not riot. These are hooligans, imho.

I have no doubt that France is a step up from parts of Africa. And I'm sorry that there are few 24/7 social clubs for restless youths in need of stimulation.

So what is France to do? Wave a white hanky so that the restless youths can move in to take control? Anyone who voluntarily came to France to escape poverty and evil has already received his/her just rewards. Either be French, (in the Judeo-Christian European sense) or be rejected. There is no room in France for the non-French. Be it, or see it (from somewhere else, on al Jazeera).

The funny thing here...is that if you just over the border into Germany...the cops could turn and just plain beat the thugs to the ground. Then arrest them and toss them into jail for day or two. There would be no hearing for police brutality...such things simply don't occur. French police simply don't have support from the politicans and they certainly don't get respect.

Wherever they serve the best crow in France.

Indeed, and no doubt washing it down with a bold French whine.

So the disenfranchized rioting "youths" burn cars, businesses and schools! The very things that enable people to get out of poverty, work for a living, and be productive useful citizens!
