Court Orders 'Deletions' in Clinton IRS Report

A three-judge panel overseeing Independent Counsel David Barrett's investigation into abuses by the Internal Revenue Service under the Clinton administration has ordered Barrett to make "discrete deletions" is the draft he submitted 15 months ago.

The deletion order "has stoked speculation that [it] has more to do with the next presidential campaign," reports the Wall Street Journal, noting widespread rumors that "the draft report contains information potentially embarrassing to another Clinton administration figure, former first lady and current New York Sen. Hillary Clinton."

"The one Clinton official rumored to be implicated in the report is former IRS Commissioner Margaret Richardson, a friend of the former first lady," the paper said.

The Clintons' lawfirm Williams & Connolly has reportedly filed numerous motions with the court in a bid to trim the report and stall its publication.

According to the Journal: "The judges agreed with [individuals named in the report] that some deletions were needed 'to protect extremely confidential information.' They also told Mr. Barrett to omit one section before publishing the report, but to include that material with the report to congressional leaders of both parties."

The section at issue is said to cover "investigations of alleged obstructions of justice and tax-related matters."

In 1997, then Commissioner Richardson denied allegations that her agency had targeted Clinton scandal witnesses and administration critics, despite ample evidence of selective scrutiny.

Clinton accusers Bill Dale, Gennifer Flowers, Elizabeth Ward Gracen and Juanita Broaddrick were all audited during the 1990s. Paula Jones, whose sexual harassment lawsuit led to Mr. Clinton's impeachment, was both audited and had her confidential tax returns leaked to the media.

Adding to the appearance of a massive abuse of power, conservative organizations like the National Rifle Association, the Heritage Foundation, and the Freedom Alliance were also slapped with audits during the Clinton years.

Reports last April on the Barrett investigation said his report zeroed in on Richardson's involvement. But a source familiar with the prosecutor's unedited draft told the Journal she isn't mentioned by name.

The paper said that congressional Republicans cried foul earlier this week over the plan to censor Barrett's report, proposing an amendment to an annual spending bill to release it without any deletions.

For his part, Mr. Barrett will only say: "When, and if, the report becomes known, people will understand more than they do now."

Thanks...the more I see these quotes from Clinton, like the Rosa Parks "I'm 9 and I know so much about the World that I sat at the back of the bus" and the now the Rabin "Not a week goes by without me thinking about him" - it just shows that he says what makes HIM look the best.

It's gotten so bad that the media simply lets him say whatver he wants without ever asking, "is this a lie?". What's ironic is with the Rain thing he was probably trying to use that quote to make Rabin look like he had a big impact on Clinton - something nice to say at a remembrance type of event, but when Trent Lott does the same thing - appeasing statements meant to please the person who is being remembered - he is run from the leadrship of our party.

Only in a socialist state.

Who are the three judicial overseers? Who appointed them?

I wouldn't think so....and IF there is anything in there that shows Hillary in a negative light...it it very much the business of every American...

This is what Rather/Mapes was trying to do IN REVERSE to Bush...lying, and forging papers to make him look BAD...

Sounds like the courts are trying to facilitate a cover-up to help Hillary NOT look bad. I wonder if one of the judges had been audited...or something...

"When, and if, the report becomes known, people will understand more than they do now."

...but once again, not enough about the Clintstones.

I can understand blocking out such things like a social security number or things like that ... because that would fall under the category of private

But to block out a name of who conducted the audits ... is not private

And looks like a cover up by the courts to reshape an outcome of an election

Do you remember during the Democrat primaries before the last election, when there were questions regarding papers that Howard Dean had "locked away" from when he was Governor of Vermont...and he kept refusing, because of possible patient/doctor disclosure...or some such???

I heard the other day...that he has succeeded in getting a court to let his papers stay "hidden"...which makes me very suspicious...

He was told that any names would be deleted..and any personal or medical information deleted...but he still wouldn't release them...

The same goes here....like you said---just so long as no "unsuspecting" citizen's personal information gets out...we should know if there was any "broken rules" by the Clinton Administration..

Wouldn't it be fair that the impeached *Felons get audited?

When are these hillbilly criminals going to get the prison sentences they deserve?!

Never! They have too many people in high places involved with them. That's the Clinton's MO (always has been). If you take enough people down with you no one will tattle. No morales, no conscience, they don't care what they do to the country or other people, period, as long as they win what they want.

They have had people go to prison to protect them more than once. I hope to GOD people realize they are pure evil before Hillary Clinton gets elected as President of the United States!!! I'm sure the MSM will do whatever they can to help get her elected like they did that puke of a "husband" of hers.

It would be great if the House GOP were to grow some cajones and do that. But I'm not particularly hopeful.

Remember the 1900 lawyers he replaced in the Justice Department when he took over the Presidency?

That, plus Janet Reno, prevented many charges from materializing into indictments against the Clintons.

You know, the Clintons problem is and was that they believed the Hollywood version of the Presidency. They watched too many movies and thought that President's actually do this stuff...

Good point, and I think you are right. In their adolescent imaginations they thought that the evil Republicans had done this kind of stuff all the time, so they would do it, too, only in the name of all that is righteous and good (Marxism, pacifism, etc etc).

At least we were spared another boy president by a few thousand decent Florida voters. Lord help us next time.
