Santorum Critical Of Bush, War In Iraq
(AP) PHILADELPHIA Sen. Rick Santorum took a rare swing at President Bush, saying the war in Iraq has been less than optimal and that some blame for that lies with the White House.
Santorum, a conservative Republican and usually a strong Bush ally, said the unpopularity of the war should be shared between the White House and the media.
Certainly, mistakes were made, Santorum said of the wars conduct. But thats a criticism you can make of every conflict.
The comments, made after a Veterans Day speech at the Union League in Philadelphia on Friday, came at the same time the Pennsylvania senator stressed he wasnt trying to distance himself from the president, who spoke moments earlier about 80 miles away at the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
Bushs poll numbers are the lowest of any time during his presidency, in part due to the climbing death toll in Iraq. He is also blamed by some for the loss of the Virginia governors race, in which he appeared with Republican candidate Jerry Kilgore the day before the election. Kilgore lost.

Ah, so your complaint about Santorum has nothing at all to do with the topic of this thread then. You're just jumping on a dishonest media hit piece against Santorum because you're angry with him for another reason.
Nice.
The silence and incoherence of the Bushies is seen as guilt.
My guess also, Pietro. Anyone who reacts to the media's characterization of a conservative's comments is easily duped.
Well they quote one or two sentences that don't support the story. I would like to see the full transcript now because the article doesn't present the argument that fits the first couple of sentences that teed me off. Anyone got a trancript? Haven't found it myself.
Amen! Why would he be 80 miles away? I think he would have done his poll numbers better to be with the President on that excellent speech yesterday! I hope President Bush continues with that message.
I caught a snippet of an upcoming show on one of the so-called news shows, Prime Time, maybe. I didn't catch the entire promo, but it featured Santorum answering questions about a lawsuit filed for personal damages because his wife gained weight. Could someone please enlighten me? He was awarded $300,000 because his wife couldn't campaign, etc. I remember thinking that media is going all out to oust him.
Also, Michael Yon and Bill Rogio had some nice things to say about Santorum:
MilBloggers Go to Washington
By Bill Roggio
Yesterday, four MilBloggers, Michael Yon, Andi Carol, Steve Schippert and I had the opportunity to attend a press conference with Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania to highlight the efforts of our armed forces serving in Iraq.
We had the opportunity to speak with Senator Santorum personally for an extended period of time, and I was impressed by his passion and frustration on the issue of the media's representation of the war in Iraq. He expressed this in the press conference as well (video). Supporters of our military and improved coverage and insight into the war in Iraq have a committed ally in Senator Santorum.
I am not ready to jump on the bash Bush bandwagon. I have problems with such issues as immigration reform, campaign finance reform, and prescription drugs, but Bush is right on national security including the war in Iraq, SS reform, tax reduction, SCOTUS, partial-birth abortion, affirmative action, Kyoto, etc. He is still on the Conservative end of the political spectrum.
Actually doesn't do much good to "Defend themselves" when everything they say or do is deliberately misreported by the Dinosaur Media which the Whine all the Time Choir eagerly laps up with NO critical thought what so ever. In case you missed what Santorum ACTUALLY said, he WAS defending the President and the Iraq mission. However, that is NOT what was reported by the DNC directed press. Maybe "Conservatives" should get off their hobby horse of whining 100% of the time at Bush and actually help us MOVE the agenda forward by defending the truth instead of helping the Hysteric Left by spending ALL their time shooting at their OWN side.
That's one of the most misleading headlines I've ever read. Santorum is absolutely right. Mistakes are made in every war.
I attended a SS reform seminar where Santorum spoke advocating the Bush plan. He was impressive. Santorum is a real conservative. I wouldn't write him off quite yet. He will do well in his head-to-head debates with Casey. Santorum's wife and six children make a model politcal family.
OK Rick. Felt sorry for you when you had your breakdown and some other times as well but...ya know what? You are on your own now. WhatEVER you run for I hope you lose big time. To stab President Bush in the back like you jsut did is unforgiveable. You are a disgrace and no longer have our support. You can hang out there to dry next time YOU are in trouble...we sure as hell won't help you. Thanks for nothing. Shame on you. Shame on you. Good luck on YOUR next election!!!

Why give them the ammo? If they try to and are going to use it against you, why even say one thing to give them ammo.
What do they do when these people get to DC - surgically remove all their principles?
Santorum got caught having taxpayers of PA paying for his kids education, that was really embarrassing. Then a picture was shown of the tiny house he claims as his residence in PA. A cheap two bedroom fixer upper with two bedrooms and he has six kids.
He lives in and pays taxes on a million dollar home in VA and has for a long time.
You need to do more research on Senator (chameleon) Santorum.
