Santorum Critical Of Bush, War In Iraq
(AP) PHILADELPHIA Sen. Rick Santorum took a rare swing at President Bush, saying the war in Iraq has been less than optimal and that some blame for that lies with the White House.
Santorum, a conservative Republican and usually a strong Bush ally, said the unpopularity of the war should be shared between the White House and the media.
Certainly, mistakes were made, Santorum said of the wars conduct. But thats a criticism you can make of every conflict.
The comments, made after a Veterans Day speech at the Union League in Philadelphia on Friday, came at the same time the Pennsylvania senator stressed he wasnt trying to distance himself from the president, who spoke moments earlier about 80 miles away at the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
Bushs poll numbers are the lowest of any time during his presidency, in part due to the climbing death toll in Iraq. He is also blamed by some for the loss of the Virginia governors race, in which he appeared with Republican candidate Jerry Kilgore the day before the election. Kilgore lost.

Exactomundo.
I've heard the exact thing Santorum said (mistakes, etc) also said by nearly every tried and true conservative, including Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, and George Allen.
Have mistakes been made? They are in every war.
The Inquirer, in this article, I'm sure ignored the 15 compliments Santorum made toward President Bush, and focused on the ONE negative thing.
Bottom Line: Another mainstream media distortion of the n-th degree.
Santorum knows he is out of a job. Just another conservative on paper only. I am going to like seeing him go down.
Bye, bye Rick, YOU IDIOT! You can't out dem the dems and you will lose big next year.
"The comments, made after a Veterans Day speech at the Union League in Philadelphia on Friday, came at the same time the Pennsylvania senator stressed he wasnt trying to distance himself from the president, who spoke moments earlier about 80 miles away at the Tobyhanna Army Depot."
"The senator criticized the media for blowing the issue out of proportion, and for what he said was unbalanced reporting on the Iraq war." NB: The headline makes no mention of Santorum being critical of the media.
"The media only report the death toll, Santorum said. While conceding that is a piece of the story, he questioned how the public would have felt about World War II if the media had reported only the body count and not news of cities liberated by the Allies."
I have a problem with the WH's lackluster efforts to educate the public about why we are in Iraq and their failure to more forceful in their response to the baseless charges of the Dems. I have a bigger problem with a partisan MSM and unpatriotic Dems who are using the war to gain political advantage.
***My guess is this quote is taken wildly out of context. The MSM has no lovbe of Santorum and will do everything to defeat him.***
You're right! I read the article and found nothing disloyal in what Santorum said. It read more like the leftist press quoting out of context.
I don't understand the logic. He is down in the polls so he further alienates his core base. Brilliant strategy. Bye Rick.He didn't. You all got played by the AP... again!
See above.
The usual biased garbage from the sleazebags at AP. They don't even try to hide it anymore, LOL.
Just look at this morning's MSM coverage of Bush's speech yesterday... 10% covering the actual speech, 90% analysis of a "desperate attempt to save his sinking presidency... let's look again at the latest WP/Newsweek polls..."
What the Hell? Read the entire article and see my post #24.
Keep playing into the MSM's hands.
It would appeared Senator Santorum was a victim of a deliberate hit piece designed to sow discord in the Conservative Base. Seems what he SAID and what was REPORTED are by no stretch of the imagination the same thing. But as a Social Conservative in a blue state, Santorum should know better then to give the hysteric bigots in the media ANY ammo they can use against him.
Amazing how some on FR can be driven by a media headline.
This guy Santoram is a jerk and he probably derailed his campaign for '06. At a time when the President is trying to unite the people this guy goes the other way. The fact is we are winning the war and we will probaly withdraw some troops in '06.
You sound like you are buying the MSM Kool-aid. Santorum is one of the most conservative members of Congress with a lifetime ACU rating of 87. In 2004 it was 96. Santorum has been one of the most active supporters of Bush's SS reform plan including PAs.
Real stand up guy, isn't he.
You might want to read beyond just the sensational headline before you start firing shots. I find the reaction by the majority of people on this thread to be disappointing.
All of this from people who supposedly know better about MSM manipulations...
What I find amazing is how the first two sentences of this article were invented from whole cloth by the writer.
The facts do not back up this "journalist's" premise.
More kneejerk Santorum bashing from those who are driven by MSM headlines.
You cant lose what you already lost.
Don't worry Rick your buddy Arlen will come to your rescue.
