Bush Fights Back !! [William Kristol]
The Weekly Standard ^ | Nov 12, 2005 | William Kristol

Posted on 11/12/2005 3:05:42 AM PST by The Raven

ON VETERANS' DAY, the president fought back. In a major speech Friday at Tobyhanna Army Depot in Pennsylvania, President Bush defended the war in Iraq. Most notably, he defended the probity and honesty with which his administration made the case for the war to remove Saddam. At last, the president confronted the slander that he "lied us into war"--a slander propagated by his opponents with amazing success.

Here is the key passage in Bush's speech:

While it's perfectly legitimate to criticize my decision or the conduct of the war, it is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history of how that war began. Some Democrats and antiwar critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and misled the American people about why we went to war. These critics are fully aware that a bipartisan Senate investigation found no evidence of political pressure to change the intelligence community's judgments related to Iraq's weapons programs. They also know that intelligence agencies from around the world agreed with our assessment of Saddam Hussein. They know the United Nations passed more than a dozen resolutions citing his development and possession of weapons of mass destruction. And many of these critics supported my opponent during the last election, who explained his position to support the resolution in the Congress this way: 'When I vote to give the president of the United States the authority to use force, if necessary, to disarm Saddam Hussein, it is because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his

hands is a threat and a grave threat to our security.' That's why more than a hundred Democrats in the House and the Senate, who had access to the same intelligence, voted to support removing Saddam Hussein from power.

"I had to read the rest of the article to see if Kristol didn't inject some of his venom against Rummy. IMO Kristol has been little different than these liberals he names."

Not to mention that he has had a "woody" ever since the Presidents poll numbers went into the cellar.

Within several months he will be on a rah ... rah ... McCain cheerleading binge 24/7.

What exactly does his bedtime have to do with the fact that he's overburdened?

It's a shame the president even had to address this.

It's also a shame Dubya has one of the most ineffective press secretaries ever in Scott McClellan. The man is in way over his head.

I would hope that Dubya would include how he has always valued life unlike the fine senator from Mass.Kennedy who allowed a woman to drown, or how he has never dismissed and dishonored the troops by using actual liars as the fine senator from Mass. Kerry did,or how the fine MSM here in America would allow our troops to be ambushed even if they knew ahead of time because it is all about the story and history; what the hell go for broke make them howl, scream throw a hissy fit do it for the next 3 yrs, what are they going do prevent him from being elected again. I miss the late, great Lee Atwater he would never have allowed this nonsense!!!!!!!Every speech would include some mention of the DEMS and always remind America that KKK Byrd as late as 1971 stated he would never fight with a negro in battle, his fillibusters on civil rights and all of the other DEMS, the true racists in this great country of ours. Conclude in each speech that he would never allow someone to excite him under a desk, in a office that decisions are made to send our troops into harm's way some of whom will never return.I am sorry to say Dubya brought this on himself first by being friends to Slick Willey and the other DEMS.

Oh I give him no more than a couple of days, and he will be back on Rummy's back. I wonder if he was the one who told McCain that not even Israel allows "torture" via their Supremes. I really resent the idea that these two promote the idea that we promote "torture", and we need to give ourselves the US credibility via McCain's "anit-torture" amendment.

How can he be overburdened when he goes to sleep early every night? If he were staying up and working till midnight or past I might agree that he works hard but overburdened?

The lesson of 9-11 was that our enemies didn't need weapons of mass destruction OR missiles to deliver them, just the wish to do us harm and a profound lack of respect.

Not only did the anti-war types fail to grasp this lesson, they want us to believe that Saddam failed to "get it" also.

Yesterday's speech of President Bush was great. Only by quoting the Democrats and talking about their positions on Iraq, they're shown up. The rats and media have been telling lies for months, and the White House has finally started setting the record straight.

What the Whitehouse needs is a team of attack-dogs such as Begala and Carville. Their only reason to exist would be to attack the "attackers". Why is this so hard for our Administration to comprehend?

He has accomplished more before 8AM on an average day, than you probably do in a month. You have never had the responsibility of the WORLD on you back, and he carries that burden to bed every night.

You are acting like the enemy. Are you the enemy?

Bush needs to talk like this every single day until his poll ratings go up. If Republicans lose the House and Senate, he'll be impeached.

Scott, in his verbal attack yesterday on the "bloated murderer kennedy", has proven that he has it in him. He must give into his "dark side" more often!

You're right, but journalists like those at NPR have been willing to bend the truth to damage the GOP politically. The GOP hasn't been able to develop the momentum to sing from the same sheet of music like the socialists on the left have. Otherwise rational people have been pulled along by the ruse.

Two of the most irresponsible politicians ever and totally anti-American. These Socialists would rather see the enemy win the WOT than support their country and their Military. Utterly Useful Idiots!

Utterly Useful Idiots implies that these two have some degree of value? Change 'useful' to 'useless' and I will agree.

Well, at least he gets his sleep which is more than I get with a 7 month old who is teething.

You are acting like the enemy. Are you the enemy?

Enemy to what? I just don't like the way some people are raising Bush to god-like status. He's a man like me. He has many things to worry about but sleep isn't one of them.

Calling someone who has literally thousands of people helping him do his job "overburdened" is farfetched.

As our troops fight a ruthless enemy determined to destroy our way of life, they deserve to know that their elected leaders who voted to send them to war continue to stand behind them. Our troops deserve to know that this support will remain firm when the going gets tough. And our troops deserve to know that, whatever our differences in Washington, our will is strong, our nation is united and we will settle for nothing less than victory.

If their cars in DC get torched they'll send in the Park Police.
