O'Reilly Won't Back Down After Blasting S.F.
KCBS 5 San Francisco ^ | November 11, 2005

Posted on 11/11/2005 11:15:23 PM PST by Political Junkie Too

Conservative Broadcaster Bill O’Reilly is making no apologies for his inflammatory comments about San Francisco.

"I'm from New York,” O’Reilly said on the radio Friday. “There are dozens of people in my neighborhood, on Long Island, who are dead because of 9/11, and you people are telling me you're not going to allow military recruiting out there. Hey, it's serious, and I think you guys need a wake-up call."

O’Reilly is upset about the city’s proposition discouraging public schools from allowing military recruiters on campus. On his national radio show Tuesday, he said San Francisco should not get a nickel of federal funds.

"And if al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it,” he said. “We're going to say, 'look every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower, go ahead.'"

On Friday, San Francisco Supervisor Chris Daly told CBS 5 that he is taking action against O’Reilly by introducing a resolution demanding that Fox News executives fire the conservative host.

"I was outraged," Daly said. “To green light terrorist attacks and violence shows a lot of hate, not a lot of humanity. It's un-American."

Daly says that San Francisco firefighters are livid over O’Reilly’s remarks because Coit Tower was built as a monument to their profession.

"To choose that target, given the context of bravery of New firefighters on Sept. 11th, is doubly harsh message from Bill O’Reilly,” Daly said.

Mayor Gavin Newsom says the proposition does not mean that people in San Francisco are Anti-military. He says that people just have concerns about what he calls predatory recruiting.

You seem to have lots of issues - none of them coherent.

Fire O'Reilly and replace him with Glen Beck.

Because 99% of the people reading it would KNOW what SECDEF stands for and the other 1% should have to look it up.

I very much doubt that. He has always claimed not to beling to any political party

It's true, I heard him on his radio show say to a caller that he was a 'progressive democrat'. I was shocked cause I thought the same as you until then.

O'Reilly admitted on air last year that he's a DEMOCRAT!

I missed that. That must be why I find him unlistenable. Other than a few seconds here or there, I don't watch him.

Actually I'd prefer that every community and university that banned Recruiters lose ALL federal dollars. No federal money for schools, law enforcement etc. Let the homeowners that voted for those laws pay for everything. Watch the communists shriek when they get the bill.

" Keyes had a show... on MSNBC and it failed miserably."

Has there ever been a show on the MSDNC that has not failed/ or is not failing miserably??

I do know that SF is about as anti-military/anti-America as they come. . .

Check out the links in post 31 and 36.

We have Fleet Week every year because, with the Blue Angels air show, it is the second biggest draw to the waterfront.

Didn't they finally drive the Blue Angels out because of the noise over the city during practice?

Not yet - but they are working on it!

Fleet Week is my favorite time to be in SF.

The BA's missed 2001 for obvious reasons, but they were back in 2002. In 2004, they got mad because of the anti-war stuff and skipped SF for the first time in 20 years. They did perform this year.

Money talks.

BS...

The reason why they skipped SF in 2004 had nothing to do with anti-war stuff.

I heard this from a Navy guy and that's also what was bandied about at the time, the scheduling in Hawaii was just a cover for getting back at SF for the anti-war marches. So they say.

I realize that they never schedule the same city two years in a row, but for twenty years SF had been the exception.

It was the promoter that SF chose to use. The BAs wouldn't work for them.

It's been patched up since and they will likely be at Fleet Week for years to come.
