WHITE HOUSE: Setting the Record Straight: Sen. Kennedy On Iraq
White House ^ | November 11, 2005

Posted on 11/11/2005 3:07:21 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

"It is regrettable that Senator Kennedy has chosen Veteran's Day to continue leveling baseless and false attacks that send the wrong signal to our troops and our enemy during a time of war. It is also regrettable that Senator Kennedy has found more time to say negative things about President Bush then he ever did about Saddam Hussein. If America were to follow Senator Kennedy's foreign policy, Saddam Hussein would not only still be in power, he would be oppressing and occupying Kuwait."

- Scott McClellan, White House Press Secretary

Sen. Kennedy On Iraq

Sen. Kennedy Said Saddam Hussein Was Developing WMDs: "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." (Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA), Remarks At The Johns Hopkins School Of Advanced International Studies, Washington, D.C., 9/27/02)

Sen. Kennedy: "Saddam Hussein Is A Dangerous Figure. He's Got Dangerous Weapons." (CBS' "Face The Nation," 10/6/02)

Sen. Kennedy Now Says The President Manipulated Facts About Iraq's WMDs: "'Instead of providing open and honest answers about how we will achieve success in Iraq and allow our troops to begin to come home,' Kennedy said, 'the president reverted to the same manipulation of facts to justify a war we never should have fought.'" (Deb Riechmann, "Bush Forcefully Attacks Critics Of The War In Iraq," Associated Press, 11/11/05)

Sen. Kennedy Opposed Removing Saddam Hussein From Kuwait. (S.J.Res.2, CQ Vote #2: Adopted 52-47: R 42-2; D 10-45, 1/12/91, Kennedy Voted Nay)

Sen. Kennedy Opposed Removing Saddam Hussein From Power. (H. J. Res. 114, CQ Vote #237: Passed 77-23: R 48- 1; D 29-21; I 0-1, 10/11/02, Kennedy Voted Nay)

I hope this egotistical blob runs for president one more time.

It will be a blast to see him make a fool of himself and lose badly to whoever the dims nominate.

How does this guy get re-elected to the Senate year after year? I know MA is full of lefties, but this is ridiculous. The man is a complete moron and is a traitor to our country - how can the folks in MA sne him back? from a google search for 2006 seats up - Massachusetts (Kennedy-D) - Sen. Ted Kennedy was born Feb. 22, 1932, and will be 74 on election day in 2006. Former Wakefield Selectman Kevin Scott is running for the GOP, although Kennedy is strongly favored to win.

Favored by the ilk of MA I guess.

And the reason war was not declared?

If I remember there were also legal reasons that gave more flexibility to Not declare war. The U.N. authorized the action, the Congress authorized the action and the President has the power to take action.

No war declaration needed.

I can't imagine a worse death. The whole time she was probably thinking help would come. Who wouldn't? Who expects a monster? Could you imagine the terror she must have felt when she realized this low life is actually going to let me die to save his own political skin?

She was probably pregnant. Her family wouldn't let her be exhumed in order to find out.

Section. 8. Clause 11: The Congress shall have Power To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water.

Declaring war is straight forward. Congress will never do this again, since it make the President pretty much in charge of everything. And your right, they will never give up the power.

Granting letters of marque. This is essentially a Congressionally approved hit on someone. They do it every day and twice on Sundays.

Granting letters of reprisal. Today this is usually done via JOINT RESOLUTION.

Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy punched back, calling the speech "a campaign-like attempt to rebuild his own credibility by tearing down those who seek the truth about the clear manipulation of intelligence."

Keep hitting them... This is the kind of response that has driven Bush s ratings into the sewer.

We're all patting ourselves on the back when the bottom line is the libs did so much damage to the conservatives that the repercussions are going to be felt in elections in '06 and '08. Regardless of how much wishful thinking we may have otherwise. I am so po'd at Bush and this administration. I have defened him for way too long and have now had to face the fact that the man is a f**king imbecile. I can't believe that he get's accused of lying, his staff gets accused of lying, and instead of defending himself and his staff he sends his staff for ethics counseling. Doesn't this moron realize that was an admission of guilt???? Wasn't there anyone with half a brain in his administration to point this out to him??? Doesn't this idiot ralize that he has an obligation to the people who elected him to office to defend conservatives and by extension, his constituents. In other words all conservatives are liars! Well guys, looks like we'd better sign up for the next semester ethics class.

My only question is WHY WHY WHY have the Republicans waited until Bush's poll numbers were in the 30's before fighting back? Why have they let this crap fester for almost 2 years!? If they would have fought this when it started (Wilson) he wouldn't have such poor job approval NOW. Stupid PR people in the WH, that's for sure!

I think they've been trying to fight back in a passive, accepting of diverse opinions way, while the media has just been ragging on them with false and distorted charges. As for Wilson, they should have charged him with treason the second he opened his mouth. This whole media distortions started right when Rathers got slammed for trying to pass bogus docs right before the election and the media will never let right have the last word.
