Election night fizzle for 'Commander'

ABC's presidential drama dips to lowest rating

On election night, TV viewers were not nearly as interested in fake politics.

ABC’s presidential drama “Commander-in-Chief” averaged a series-low 3.7 overnight rating among viewers 18-49 last night.

That’s down 16 percent versus the 4.4 overnight rating the show had averaged through the first six episodes.

The problem seems to be the return of Fox’s “House” after a baseball furlough during which the ABC show blossomed. With “House” now back, viewers who had been watching other things in the 9 p.m. timeslot are migrating back to Fox.

“House” averaged a 5.3 overnight rating among 18-49s last night in the 9 p.m. timeslot head-to-head with “Commander.” “Commander’s” three lowest-rated episodes of the season came while airing against original episodes of “House.”

“Commander” earned a 4.3 overnight rating for its premiere episode on Sept. 27, the same night Fox aired its last original “House” before giving way to baseball playoffs and a surge for “Commander.”

“House” returned to the schedule last week and “Commander” delivered a 3.9 overnight rating among 18-49s, its previous season low before last night’s 3.7.

Of course it's also possible that after watching endless local election coverage, viewers just weren't in the mood for political entertainment.

She was soooooooooo pleased to be honored to play the nation's first woman president when I saw her on ET last week (I usually don't watch it since entertainers are so boring, but I was at my brother's house). It is almost as if she thinks TV shows really amount to something substantial when they are mostly only entertainment.

Did anyone tell Glenn Close about that? Okay, so she was Vice-President acting as president.

True, but this is only the 18-49 age group. CIC was still ahead of House in the overall ratings on Tuesday (but not by much). Dr. House needs to get out a stake and drive it through the heart of the Hillary Free Ad Show.

It is only a matter of time until Genna performs a Monica on a staff member in the Oval Office. It would certainly lend credibility to her impersonation of the "Clinton II".

Well, yeah!

House is the first medical show that I have been hooked on. I normally would rather clean tile grout then watch one of those smarmy doctors swish around in their white coats.

But House I like. He is mean, sarcastic and undoubtedly kicks puppies and tramples flower beds for fun but I like him. He has depth.

'House' is a pretty funny show.
It's amazing how you can get drawn to a show where all you want to do is smack the star in the head.

"Only"?
CIC could do total boffo in every other group and advertisers would still dump the show like Michael Moore's toxic waste.

Dennis Leary's fireman in "Rescue Me" is much the same. Love that show.

That would be news to U.S. President Leslie McCloud, aka Polly Bergen in 'Kisses for My President' from 1964.
