Gosh, it must hurt sometime, to see what's happening and to take all the guff from the critics, even if the critiques are well-founded.

But the lesson here is that things can and will change. Meaning, someday, SF can become a normal place again. It might take an earthquake and the ruination of California's economy, but it might happen. Here are some examples of total political transformation in my lifetime:

* Once the South was solidly Democratic. I expect most Democrats thought it would be forever.

* New Jersey and Vermont were once solid, and I mean, solid, Republican states. Look at them now. Couldn't elect a Republican dogcatcher.

* Remember when Los Angeles was considered a right-wing bastion? That was as recently as 1980.

* Remember when Hollywood producers used to screen their films before three men of the cloth -- one Catholic, one Christian, and one Jewish? That "quaint" (in my mind, essential) practice ended after 1970, I think.

Now for some international versions:

* The Dutch were Europe's most devout nation, and most strongly committed to evangelism, in the years immediately after WWII. Today's hedonism in the Netherlands is almost abominable.

* The average Italian family used to be 6 children, as recently as 1960. Now Italy has the lowest birthrate in Europe, 1.1 I think. And I DO consider birthrates a political issue, one created by the left.

* Swedes used to immigrate to America for religious freedom. Today, I doubt that any Swedes could spell Christian, and the only time "God" or "Jesus" are spoken it is in the context of a swear word.

I could go on for hours. But I think you get my point.

Right on all counts!! As I said, I may not live to see it, but I have faith that San Francisco will once again be the proud city she was!
