CONWAY Two people are in critical condition and the husband of one of the victims is in custody following a midnight shooting yesterday in Madison.
Edwin A. Valdez Aguilar, 26, is being held in lieu of $500,000 cash bail in the Carroll County House of Correction on two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
Madison Police Chief John Pickering says Valdez Aguilar, from El Salvador, has been in this country illegally since 1999 and has been living in town off and on for the past several years.
The victims, Valdez Aguilars wife, Sarah Pelligrino Valdez, and a friend, Anthony Gentile, were shot as they were sitting in a truck outside the residence at 985 E. Madison Road, police said.
Both were taken to the Maine Medical Center in Portland. Pelligrino Valdez was shot in the neck and shoulder; Gentile was shot in the jaw and was transferred yesterday afternoon to Massachusetts General Hospital, where, Pickering said, he was in critical condition. Police were called to a residence on East Madison Road just after midnight yesterday, after a report from a family member that two people had been shot.
Pickering, according to court papers, was the first on the scene and reported seeing Gentile sitting on a couch with a fresh injury to his jaw, as he was missing his entire lower section of his jaw.
The owner of the home and the mother of the female victim, Johanna Bilodeau, told Pickering that she had just been dropped off by Gentile and Pelligrino Valdez. Shortly after going into the house, her daughter . . . came into the house and said, Mom, Ive been shot; Edwin shot me, according to court papers. Right after that, (Valdez Aguilar) came into the house carrying a rifle.
Bilodeau, according to court papers, wrestled the rifle from Valdez Aguilar and told him to leave the residence.
Valdez Aguilar ran into the woods and was found about three hours later under the porch of a house, during a search of the area by police. Valdez Aguilar came out from under the porch, put his hands up and said, You got me, according to court papers.
Valdez Aguilar appeared for his arraignment in the District Court of Northern Carroll County yesterday afternoon, wearing a white jumpsuit. He did not speak and did not enter a plea on the two felony charges, which carry a sentence of up to life in prison.
Pickering would not say if the Immigration and Naturalization Service has been notified regarding Valdez Aguilar.
Well, one thing they are doing, they are keeping the construction companies who builds our nation's prisons busy.
Although more than I on these threads know the alternatives to the present situation, decorum and proper political speech precludes us from saying. At some point in time, if it occurs before it is too late, we will all know the answer to the problem, and it won't be without dissention.
Shame on you. You are not 'celebrating diversity'.
Don't you know YOU are supposed to accept these little quirky actions of people from different cultures. This person is from El Salvador and his wife was talking with another man. HIS WIFE darn it! Its OK for him to open fire.
Sheesh, some people are just bigots.
(Its a good thing the other guy wasn't messing with this guys donkey. That would set off a vendetta that would last for generations)
I hate when that happens.
She married an illegal? No mention of children. Was this a marriage of convenience? I feel bad for this woman and her family and the guy who was shot. But.
This is what you get when you get mixed up with illegals and invaders of this country.
Valdez Aguilar, from El Salvador, has been in this country illegally since 1999 and has been living in town off and on for the past several years.
----Undetected? Or they knew and didn't do anything. I feel sure there are many far more dangerous people in this country as well, just waiting to do Americans harm.
Shooting cheating spouses and their lovers is an old American tradition.
ping
I think many have advocated sealing the southern border, deporting the illegals and etc. And they have done so without reprisal
The only "answer to the problem" that you might be precluded from saying is advocating mass executions and/or nuking mexico.
You are really shooting yourself in the foot for hinting at what you might say. If you can't say it then maybe you should not hint at it. People are not stupid.
You make and interesting point. He can not be illegal, unless she is also illegal.
Btw, I think we're reached that point, and if not, we're doggone close to it.
an illegal can be married to a US citizen and still be illegal.
He can be illegal. She is apparently from Maine and married to him. Marriage does not make one "legal".

Sounds eerily like 'Fargo', especially if this were January.
