Women fight off attackers (NC)
Charlotte Observer ^ | Nov. 11, 2005 | STEVE LYTTLE

Women fought off attackers in a pair of overnight incidents in Charlotte, in one case firing shots at an intruder.

The first took place shortly after midnight in the 5100 block of Eaton Circle, off Morris Field Drive near Charlotte/Douglas International Airport.

Police say a woman was asleep when she was awakened by a man who had forced his way into her home.

The man cut the woman with a knife, but she responded by grabbing a gun near her bed and firing at the intruder. She failed to hit the man, but he ran out of the house and fled.

The woman said the intruder stole some of her property.

The victim was treated for the knife wound at Presbyterian Hospital.

The second incident happened around 3:30 a.m. on High Meadow Drive, in the Montclaire community of south Charlotte, near Archdale Drive and Interstate-77.

A woman said she was walking past a vacant apartment at the Treetop Apartments when a man pulled her inside and attempted to pull off her clothes.

The woman said she grabbed a board and hit the man, temporarily stunning him. The woman fled and called police.

When police responded, they found a man still inside the vacant apartment and arrested him. The victim was not injured.

Thanks...I've been looking at those Glocks. The guy I've been working with has been showing me the 26 lately (I go to his range).

The only reason I lean towards the Walther is the feel of it...it's the easiest so far for me to handle..smoothest and quickest.

He also offers a month free on the range once I've purchased and the class so I can carry concealed, which is nice. Also he's full of info!

I'm not going to buy until I'm ready.

I'll look at it...looks to be about the same price. My husband likes his Super RedHawk from Ruger.

It's got a super-long trigger pull that takes some getting used to. It's sure not going to go off accidentally, though.

That's too heavy for good everyday carry, especially if you have to conceal it.

A great little carry gun is the Beretta .22. The .25 and .32 have little or no stopping power, but .22s do with the right ammo.

So much for Brady's claims that the woman will be overpowered and her own gun used against her.

Mossberg makes a great shotgun for home defense but I can never remember what it is called.

That was always a ridiculous claim. I'm no hard-core feminist, for crying out loud, but I'm pretty sure I can defend myself. I'm 5'9". Not a whole lotta guys I see are that much taller than me even. I might be skinny, but I'm kinda strong.

I'd be willing to bet most women can get themselves out of situations if they were scared enough.

I'm shopping for one myself.

Good for you!! I have several guns placed throughout my house. I have two shotguns and a 38 in my bedroom. One in the kitchen, one in the living room and intrusion alarms to alert me if someone breaks into my house. I sleep like a baby. LOL I've had guns all my life, but the way things are in America these days, I'm VERY glad that I have them. If a man breaks into my house, he's going to die. There are so many illegals who are raping and robbing that ALL women should be armed.

The 590 would be good, a lot of the 500 series would. This is one they offer specifically:

#50359  HS410 .410 bore HOME SECURITY Pump Action, 6-shot capacity, blued finish, synthetic stock, 18 1/2" bead barrel w/ special ‘spreader choke’.                                       ...MSRP $360

.410 is awful small, I would want at least a 20 gauge.

Granted, it is a beginner's gun, but virtually anyone can use it and, in a panic, it's sufficient.

The deal I like about a pump shotgun for home defense is, if the crook doesn't run at the sound of the clack, he might've passed out. LOL! You hardly ever have to shoot it.
