"We at Wal-Mart believe this e-mail between a temporary associate and one of our valued customers was entirely inappropriate. Its contents in no way represent the policies, practices or views of our company. This associate, who was hired less than three weeks ago, is no longer employed by our company."

It's the STAMPING OF THE FEET WHEN NOT GETTING THEIR WAY people who just make me laugh.
I was one of those - and you have to admit that this former employee speaking officially on behalf of the reasons for the company's new policies, thus it should be considered a hoax if it's passed off as such.
That said, finding that the "hoax" email and Wal-Mart policies/practices dovetail at numerous points is disturbing to say the least. In contrast to this "let's be inclusive" avoidance of acknowledging Christianity or Christmas going so far as to strip the terms from being spoken publicly, consider Hobby Lobby's corporate Statement of Purpose:
In order to effectively serve our owners, employees, and customers the Board of Directors is committed to:Honoring the Lord in all we do by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles.
Offering our customers an exceptional selection and unbeatable value.
Serving our employees and their families by establishing a work environment and company policies that build character, strengthen individuals, and nurture families.
Providing a return on the owners' investment, sharing the Lord's blessings with our employees, and investing in our community.
We believe that it is by God's grace and provision that Hobby Lobby has endured. He has been faithful in the past, we trust Him for our future.
Christmas is celebrated by probably 90% of the people in this country. If you go on Wal-Mart's website, you see they have something like 8000 items on sale in connection with Christmas, much more than for any other holiday.
I really cannot see what the problem is here.
A thousand years is relatively recent compared to two or three thousand years.
Other than being a killjoy, of what purpose would it be to deliberately remove the joy and pleasure from a holiday?
Some wish to remove Christ from Christmas, others may wish to remove the pagan observances from Christmas. Make them separate observances, and there will be no more asinine bickering.
You didn't answer the question. Why do you think joy and pleasure do not belong in a proper Christian celebration of Christmas? What is wrong with giving gifts and decorating our houses?

Because I am a Christian, I agree; however, my point is WAL-MART IS A BUSINESS! Because they sell to everyone, they shouldn't be showing "favoritism." No matter what they do, they're going to offend someone. I say, realize that and don't be offended. It seems obvious to me that they certainly didn't intend to offend us.
What's that old saw about choosing your battles carefully. Give me a break, please. I apologize for the error. Mea culpa.
What you are talking about is, except for anthropologists, made-up stuff.I dont under stand the comment. People have been celebrating midwinter for a very long time long before the Christ was born.
Why do you think joy and pleasure do not belong in a proper Christian celebration of Christmas? What is wrong with giving gifts and decorating our houses?I dont think there is anything wrong, but I also dont beat people over the head with my Holy Bible and profess to being a True Christian while observing pagan rites and traditions and complaining that people of other faiths or of no faith are trying to usurp the holiday that Christians usurped.
Excuse me, I am very offended by Happy Holiday.
Don't you realize that Holiday is derived from Holy Day?
Who the heck wants to celebrate a Holy Day?
Try to be more considerate of others' beliefs.
"People" who lived a long time ago and outside of our common culture. Pretty much irrelevant to any discussion of holidays. Even the story of the assignment of the day of Christ's birth to December 25 has gotten garbled. In part it wass the co-option of the winter soltice feast. but the longer, and more accurate story is that Christmas is a minor feast compared with Easter. We don't know exactly when Iesus was crucified. Some would have it on a March 25th, others on an April 7 (exact year uncertain). The old Jewish story had it that Prophets all died on the day of their conceptions. Therefore, some would have Jesus born on December 25, others on January 6. The way the custom developed, December 25 wass established on the church calender as the date of the Nativity, with January 6th being Epiphany. (the Feast of the Three KINGS). The latter is sometimes called "Little Christmas " and is the day in Latin countries when gifts are exchanged. In England you have the 12 days of Christmas for gift giving, a kind of compromise. In the US we just dump everything into one day, so that by December 26, all the Xmas Music is gone.

OMG, I'm so excited! Bass Pro Shops will be opening a store here (near Knoxville) this month. Woo Hoo!!
A big Bass Pro complex will be opening near me (Garland, TX) soon, too. It's going to have a hotel, restaurants, everything!
I never realized Hobby Lobby was such a Christ-centered company.
I'll try to do more Christmas shopping there. Thanks for the tip.
We still don't know the year. That's why the range of dates is offered.
