At the risk of incurring the wrath of some on here, I seriously doubt Santorum can win this one. Yes, a year is a long time, but his popularity is at an all time low in the state, and the Casey name still carries a lot of weight.

I am wondering if Rick would be better off retiring and trying to get a job in the Administration. Who knows, maybe he could even get a Supreme Court nomination if another one comes available.

"Who knows, maybe he could even get a Supreme Court nomination if another one comes available."

That's a nice sentiment, but Santorum is not well-liked by his fellow Senators. Former colleague Bob Kerrey once asked "Is Santorum Latin for ***hole?" It won't happen.

I agree with what you say. The Casey name is magic in PA -- I think that under the best of circumstances, Santorum could not defeat him and could not have defeated him the previous two times he won had Casey been the nominee. With Casey being a pro-life, pro-gun Rat, he neutralizes some of Rick's biggest issues. I agree that Santorum would do better to take an Administration slot and not even allow himself to be defeated by Casey. I do think, though, that Swann could beat Rendell.

The wrath of people unwilling to accept reality? Santorum could cure cancer between now and next year and would still lose this race. The question at this point isn't who is going to win but whether Santorum will bother fighting all the way through to Election Day.

The state is trending Dem, true, but that's not what kills him. The true nail in Santorum's coffin is that he won't even be able to get 75% of the Republican vote.

It's the "new tone". His trying to be a pal to Imus and other ass clown liberals in the media is his own undoing. Too much sucking up and back slapping with our enemies has turned off his base.

I really don't think Hillary will want to hire him. He's not her style. Seriously, I agree with you that he might be much better off quitting than running to be beaten very badly if he wants any future in politics and I agree with you that it's doubtful that he can win no matter what. His base has turned on him, the pro-life Democrats in W. PA will vote for Casey, not him, and Casey will take the pro-life vote from Scranton, etc. which leaves him competing for the pro-life vote (what little there is of it) around Philly. I don't think Specter can deliver anything to him from Philly and will be surprised if he even tries. Plus with Rendell on the ballot, the phantom vote from Philly will be running in high gear for the Democrats.

Maybe Pennsylvania will do us all a favor and not vote for Santorum or Casey. How about just a Republican who will get rid of pork and never talk about abortion?

The guy can't win re election so we should find a new spot at the public trough for him or better still, put him on the SC? Just what we need. More losers on the public payroll.

I agree with you. Rick doesn't stand much of a chance. Too conservative for a northeast state alas. i wish we could switch him with a RINO like Lindsay Graham. Rick would win a heartbeat in SC.
