The latest Rasmussen Reports survey shows that Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum is continuing to lose ground in his battle for re-election. Santorum trails Democrat Bob Casey, Jr by twenty percentage points, 54% to 34%.

Did I miss something that Santorum did or didn't do as far as pro-life votes go? I thought he was still reliable on that and 2nd ammendment, just gone to he!! on about everything else.
I think he's still personally pro-life, but he gives an awful lot of political support to abortion lovers. Supporting Specter over Toomey is something I will never forgive him for.
I believe if the Republicans and this administration does not begin to fight back against the Democratic spin, they will lose big time in 06 and 08.
There are a lot of websites against Santorum, and I've heard people say they would vote for his democrat opponent. I would never vote for a democrat.

It's ashame, but you are right! The republicans and this administration let this happen.WHY?
I must have higher standards. From many of the other posts in this thread Santorum sounds like a maroon. Better to let him go and replace the 'Rat elected this time with someone better next time. Or move to a more conservative state.
It's the "new tone". His trying to be a pal to Imus and other ass clown liberals in the media is his own undoing. Too much sucking up and back slapping with our enemies has turned off his base.
Yes, because you can get them free from dozens of places that taxpayers don't have to support.
I'd vote against him in a primary but not a General. The alternative would be even worse. He's just another spineless idiot but will at least vote right most of the time.
Say what? The Dem State Supreme Court judge became the first in state history to get dumped while the Republican won re-election.
That was the biggest Pa. election story.
I'm from Pittsburgh too,you are so right.
Are you serious? Santorum's war chest is full, as with any incumbent US Senator. He is 100 % pro-family and pro-life, which will help him to retain his base among traditional Catholics.
The Casey name has lost it's cachet since the Grand Old Man passed away. His pups can't hold a candle to him.
And if Little Bobby doesn't publicly articuate a strong anti-abortion stance, his new Bishop (Martino--an oldfashioned conservative bishop) out there in Scranton Diocese will not let him receive Communion.
How will that look on the front page?
"Why can't Toomey run in the primary?"
Well, he's not going to. He already went against the RNC (and in some senses got in trouble) when he ran against Specter (a completely fake Republican). Santorum's conservative bona fides are a million times better than Specter's and Toomey won't run against him. It would be political suicide.
The battle can not be lost. We must find a way, we cannot give up. We are close, very close. If we can take one more election cycle, just one more - the libs lose for good, I mean it.
Specter supported him, so he returned the favor. If you can't understand that, then your opinion on just about everything political doesn't matter.
It's truly unbelievable - someone who has stuck his neck out and taken the hits time and time again like Santorum has would be described in this way. It is down right idiotic - and that's not an insult, it is an observation of fact.
I really don't think Hillary will want to hire him. He's not her style. Seriously, I agree with you that he might be much better off quitting than running to be beaten very badly if he wants any future in politics and I agree with you that it's doubtful that he can win no matter what. His base has turned on him, the pro-life Democrats in W. PA will vote for Casey, not him, and Casey will take the pro-life vote from Scranton, etc. which leaves him competing for the pro-life vote (what little there is of it) around Philly. I don't think Specter can deliver anything to him from Philly and will be surprised if he even tries. Plus with Rendell on the ballot, the phantom vote from Philly will be running in high gear for the Democrats.
Too much for too long for too many who never had to grub for anything.
And like history tells us, we will eventually pay the price.
I agree that neither the House nor the Senate should be lost in '06, otherwise the 'Rats will be into impeachment - bigtime.
" Supporting Specter over Toomey is something I will never forgive him for."
Me neither. I'll vote for Santorum, but I won't lift a finger to help in his campaign. I'm sure I'm typical of many conservative activists in this regard.
In my case, my gripe with Specter is less about Right to Life than his desire to destroy the U.S. Constitution.
I can understand it, I simply abhor it. What it means is that his fidelity to Specter is greater than his fidelity to his alleged principles. And given the odiousness of Specter that is no small issue.
