The Kurdistan Region in Iraq is a good news story that seldom gets told.

With a population of 5 million in an area larger than Switzerland or twice the size of New Jersey, it is surprising that this region remains largely undiscovered and commercially untapped.

The Government and the peoples of Kurdistan invite you to discover their peaceful region, a place that has practiced democracy for over a decade, a place where the universities, markets, cafes and fair grounds buzz with progress and prosperity and where the people are already sowing the seeds of a brighter future.

Update on Developments in the Kurdistan Region in Iraq

The Kurdistan Region in Iraq is developing at great speed. We are pleased to provide an update on main developments further to the information included in the Other Iraq adverts and documentary.

Voting in the Referendum on the new Iraqi Constitution in October passed relatively peacefully and successfully.

The new Iraqi Constitution means that Kurdistan is now in a position to validate its own Regional Constitution, one that will provide the framework for a society in which human rights, including women’s rights, are upheld, the business environment is regulated and the rule of law is supreme.

Investors will have a legal, secure and certain Constitutional environment.

Erbil International and Suleimani Airports are now fully operational and receive regular direct flights from the region and Europe.

3,000 Korean Troops are stationed in Kurdistan to assist in rehabilitating infrastructure such as water supply/sewerage, roads, pavements, school renovations and constructing town halls.

Erbil hosted an international trade show in September 2005 that attracted 300 national and international exhibitors and 20,000 visitors – not a single security incident occurred.

The new Investment Law for Kurdistan is currently being ratified by the Kurdistan National Assembly ... an industrial city is planned near Erbil and is open to international investment.

The United States has never wavered in its quest to help Iraqis build a democracy that rewards compromise and consensus.

The ever generous American people have paid a tragic price, the lives of their finest men and women, to advance the banner of freedom and democracy, a sacrifice for which we are profoundly grateful.

H.E. Masoud Barzabi, President, Kurdistan Region in Iraq

"Seldom" gets told? To the MSM "Kurds" are what Little Miss Muffet had with her whey while sitting on her tuffet.

"For the first time in history the Kurds set up their own civil democratic structures, and further developed their judiciary, police and security forces."

We hardly ever hear of success stories like this on the MSM news. Most of the military folks I've heard being interviewed also talk about all of the positive things that are happening in Iraq. This was a great story and it's good to hear that the Kuristan Region is doing well. I really hope that they and the rest of Iraq do well and the freedom flourishes there. I believe it will!

This is good news. No wonder we have not heard about it on the lame stream news!

I saw the commercial on Fax News this morning too, and it was moving. It made me proud to be American and it literally sent shivers up my spine.

Imagine how this war would be percieved if the MSM reported this way. And I think the MSM would be more popular from that too.

Great post. The Kurds surely have had to short end of the stick for a very long time. Now they can finally see a brigther future for their children. No more running to the high mountains to seek safety. I still have the images of them struggling in those cold brutal mountains to seek refuge from the Butcher of Baghdad's goons. One cannot help but think they really mean what they say regarding the American sacrifice to free them from brutal oppression. In them is no deceit.
