"Well, sweetie, that's technically a muzzleloader too."

"Come on, Dad. That gun has a plastic thumbhole-pattern stock with a RealTree camouflage pattern. It looks like a modern deer rifle."

Good post! I have a .56 smoothbore (traditional!) from Thompson Center that was produced only in tiny numbers apparently because some state back east had a smoothbore season. It took me awhile to figure out the right size ammo -- even the guy at Thompson Center gave me the wrong answer. (A rifled barrel and a smoothbore barrel of the same caliber require different sized balls.)

I hear this kind of arguement in my sport, archery hunting. There are the traditionalist long-bow hunters, the recurve hunters, the compound bow hunters. There are bare-bows, sight-pins, lighted sight-pins, scopes, range finders, gloves, finger tabs, releases, cross-bows...etc. etc.

I shoot a compound bow (30% let-off), with sights and finger tabs. When it comes down to the kill, I'm somewhat disadvantaged over the bowhunters using increased technology. The real question is me vs. deer and what I feel is sporting. Believe me, the deer has the advantage.

What really frosts me is that everyone seems to have stopped making muzzleloading shotguns. I had one, but sold it, in a stupid move, and now I can't get another one.

I always enjoyed using that thing. Very satisfying "boom," and you had to sorta wait for the smoke to clear to see whether you had nailed that pheasant.

I suppose I can find one, if I really want, though...

No offense, but give number of hoofed vermin we have runnin' around GA, they ought to have a year-round season on 'em and use machine guns, grenade launchers, artillery and air strikes to fill their tag....

Still, I'd rather hunt with a Hawkins or Long Rifle repro, than an in-line. I'd never bag anything, though... so I'll stick to the Marlin. Or the Mauser. Or the SKS.

And don't forget the really good part. Black powder (primitive) weapons are not required to be sold or transfered through an FFL (your mileage may vary depending on where you live). So for the most part you can have them shipped directly to you.
