GOP to Strike Arctic Drilling From House Bill
The Washington Post ^ | November 10, 2005 | Jonathan Weisman

Posted on 11/10/2005 4:59:13 AM PST by The Hound Passer

House GOP leaders agreed last night to strip plans to permit oil drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and in the offshore continental shelf from a $54 billion budget-cutting measure, probably securing the votes to pass the bill today.

The move is a blow to President Bush, who has made expanded oil exploration a priority since he took office. Lawmakers said the White House applied pressure yesterday to Republicans to save the drilling provisions, especially in Alaska, even wooing conservative Democrats who have steadfastly opposed the GOP budget package.

I agree...I don't know what to think of these bozos. I have been lax in donating to the GOP too, for past 2 years. I hope they are FReepers and read what's going on out in cyberspace. I guess when they start losing elections and letting moveon and Soros control the country, maybe they just might have some regret!

God help us.

too much coffee and too much fire to produce more correct punctuation..It seems the Republicans from BUSH on down are ready to let the Democrats take back the Government and guess what..we will not be able to see much of a difference. They are all big government socialists to me.p>

If it loses and we are the majority, then "our" guys aren't doing the job, are they? And why doesn't our President do what those before him have done, call in our representatives and organize a strategy for victory? This type of effort is lacking in a variety of issues, giving power to "independents", and "moderates." A prime example of this is Bush's support in my state for Spector over Tomey.

What do you want him to do, get the RINO's in a room and hold guns up to their heads.

Like it or not, politics is like herding cats, but you would rather go knee jerk, with canned knee jerk replies.

Good Lord. Who's side are they on? We need to produce our own oil, and cut down on Arab oil dependency! Oh, and the oil companies better start building more refineries, since they're telling us they're pumping their obscene profits back into production.

Although I like the idea of an aggressive energy policy as an election wedge issue. As a sop to the gas price issue, which may or may not lose its steam into the next election cycle.

And you would rather stick with the status quo, and continue with what hasn't worked. The opposition counts on such a losing attitude.

You are right..apparently these RINOS don't care if they lose elections. What bothers me most is that the state of NH (Bass's home state) is largely comprised of bluecollar workers. I have relatives who are professional and bluecollar in Concord and Manchester area and they surely don't want to pay more for gasoline and home heating oil.

Why then, would this idiot Bass not want America to drill its own oil and allow his voters to be continually enslaved to middle eastern oil and high prices? Does he want his voters to pay $25 a gallon for gas? NUTS!

Next year, the gas prices will go thru the roof again. I see this happening for a long time as demand outstrips supply.

Someone in Congress needs to major head-thump these morons.

Keep spouting the party line while the ship goes down in flames. You justify everything and anything that comes from this idiotic WH and congress and senate.

titan, you are so wrong, The only reason it passed the senate is because they can't filibuster the budget and it only takes 51 votes to pass. If this were a stand alone bill, it would never get through the senate.

Yeah really 90% of the House GOp for drilling in ANWR is idiotic, but of course it is Hastert's fault to you, while you are silent to some 20 RINO's giving into the envirowhackos.
