AMMAN, Jordan - Al-Qaida claimed responsibility in an Internet posting Thursday for three suicide attacks on Western hotels that killed at least 57 people, as police clamped down on security and began running DNA tests to try to identify the bombers.
The nearly simultaneous attacks late Wednesday also wounded more than 115 people, police said. Several arrests were made overnight, although it was unclear if those arrested were suspects or witnesses.
The claim of responsibility, signed in the name of the spokesman for the group Al-Qaida in Iraq, said that "after studying and watching the targets, places were chosen to carry out an attack on some hotels that the tyrant of Jordan has made the backyard garden for the enemy of religion: Jews and crusaders" a stock term for Westerners.

Because it's not about money.
As another poster mentioned yesterday, the date, written by most of the world yesterday was 9-11-05, since only Americans tend to write the month first then the day, while most write the day, the month, the year, in that order.
Good question..
Al Qaeda killed several of their Muslim brothers and put hundreds of them out of work.Because they don't have much support. Jordan is allied with Israel and the US and its leaders, starting with the royals, are culturally westernized. Why do they have any support in the area?
AQ considers moderate Muslims to be their enemies.

"The polling also finds that in most majority-Muslim countries surveyed, support for suicide bombings and other acts of violence in defense of Islam has declined significantly. In Turkey, Morocco and Indonesia, 15% or fewer now say such actions are justifiable. In Pakistan, only one-in-four now take that view (25%), a sharp drop from 41% in March 2004. In Lebanon, 39% now regard acts of terrorism as often or sometimes justified, again a sharp drop from the 73% who shared that view in 2002. A notable exception to this trend is Jordan, where a majority (57%) now says suicide bombings and other violent actions are justifiable in defense of Islam.
From some other spots in the same report:
Confidence in Osama Bin Ladin to do the right thing - 68% A Lot, 28% Not too much, 18% None. (Highest of all countries surveyed!)
Is Islamic Extremism a threat to your country? 10% yes, 87% no - One of the lowest numbers surveyed. Also, 57% believed violence against civilian targets was justified, also the highest in the survey.
Jordan was also noted as being one of only two counties having a 100% disapproval rate of Jews.
I feel sorry for the innocents, but frankly....

A homicide bomber blows himself up. Several seconds later, several arrests are made.
I have a question. Why not make the arrests before the attack?
I have just completed reading the book "Assassins" by Oliver North. In it the Muslims plan a lot around the number 11, be it a date or whatever.
And I guess tomorrow is 11-11..... no matter which order you write it in...
As you know, also Veterans Day!
The bomb went off on 11/9/05, which they would have written as 9/11/05
