I'd have to say 'both'.

there is no "debate" with WalMart haters - they are right and those that disagree have a financial interest in WM or are Walton family members.

I do have a financial interest in WM - I save money shopping there.

what isn't to like about them?

Who CARES maybe?

They sell cheap stuff. The same stuff is HIGHER PRICED at other stores.

And this Christmas urban legend, because THAT is exactly what it is, is absolute HOOEY. But since you hate WalMart, you will buy it hook line and sinker, and then jump into bed with the Union thugs that STARTED said urban legend.

What's there to like about them anyway?

Generally lower prices on the identical items you can find in any other retailer for starters.

For example, I use a tremendous quantity of canning jars and buying them at WalMart can save me as much as $3 or $4 per case over the price of the same item any where else - and they are made right here in the good ole U S of A.

I'm inclined to agree with you about this being hogwash and started by the unions and, as another poster opinined, disgruntled employees or ex-employees.

You know, part of the Christmas shopping experience is to enjoy the music, sounds and decorations of the season.

You wouldn't know this from going to WalMart.

I had to go late last night to pickup a few things. Nothing in the store indicated that Christmas was around the corner. I had to ask where the Christmas stockings were.

I found them, and all the other Christmas decorations, stuffed away in a small corner of the Garden Center.

Hardly anything was marked with the word "Christmas". I found Holiday trees, Holiday lights and Holiday decorations. I even saw a glass bauble with a hook attached that had a picture of Batman on it. The name? Why a Batman Holiday Ornament! Though I don't know which holiday one would buy it for.

Needless to say, after pushing my carriage by the cheap decorations I really wasn't in the Christmas mood anymore.

So I left.

see post # 40 =- theyr'e doing the same thing they do for other popular search phrases like "movies", "music", "bedding", etc - they take you to splash page - basically a database driven template for certain phrases - so they can better market those keyed products.

The second line gives you the option to search for every item that matches 'christmas' in a list of 7,970 items - just like they do with music, movies, bedding, etc.

Same exact thing - yet some are choosing to be offended by it.

I was in the automotive section of a Super_WalMart yesterday and saw that someone in the store had posted the ten commandments on the wall.

yeah, those nearly 8,000 christmas items are "none".

Intellectually dishonest much?

Of course it is cheap stuff, but I suppose child and slave labor and deceptive business practices mean nothing to you?

"That, of course, is the problem...Christmas is NOT a generic holiday. They can market to any group they want, but if they're going to attempt to redefine a Christian holiday as a generic one they should not be surprised if some Christians find that offensive."

They're not doing that.

The only way you could think that is if you want to be offended.

You wouldn't know this from going to WalMart.

It must be a local management thing, because I have always enjoed the music and decorations for Christmas at the WalMarts I've shopped in.

The Garden Center at the local WalMart is huge and the entire area is turned into the Christmas Center.

All the negativity about WalMart dissing Christmas on these threads has inspired me to make a trip there, not just to make a layaway payment, but to replenish some of my Christmas decorations.

"They're not doing that. "

Just had a friend go to Wally-mart. The cashier said, "Happy holidays". He asked her if she can say, "Merry Christmas", and she said they were instructed to never say that.

So, China-Mart wants our money for Christmas items, but they want no part of Christmas??

Well, have fun. I'm not a WalMart basher. I go there to resupply ammo if nothing else. I'm just disappointed that they seem to have become politically correct to the detriment of their sales.

As I said, it must be a local thing. The local WalMart is not losing sales, nor is it becoming politically correct.

so you're sending out research crews now?

Have a "hidden camera video" to verify that?

Or are you just pulling it out of your nether regions?
