Besides...why should we drill for oil....when Congress will just haul the oil companies in front of a hearing and berate them for making any profits...

Really, isn't that absolutely ridiculous. They have no time for confirmation hearings before January, but they can smack around some oil execs for making a profit in a capitalist society.

For me, being against drilling in ANWR is just about as hard to understand as being against PBA bans - there's absolutely no rhyme or reason to it. The locals want drilling for the economic benefits, we want drilling for the fuel cost benefits, Congress SHOULD want it so we're less dependent on foreign oil, and the animals don't care because it's a vast wasteland where they don't hang out anyway. Utter silliness that we haven't started this ball rolling by now, five years into Bush's administration.

Here's the answer: Don't contribute to GOP, RNC, or any Republican political campaigns. If they can't figure out who elected them, why waste money?

You're totally wrong on this. The 1002 area of ANWR, where drilling would take place, is the prime calving ground for the Porcupine caribou herd, which is probably the largest remaining herd of wild hoofed mammals in North America. In the fall, the 1002 area is also where thousands of snow geese fatten up for a long southward migration.
