"Good effort, but a .38 and a leg shot with two rounds expended? "
A couple of things could have transpired, neither of which the story tells.
1. The perp could have been sitting in the closet with his feet on the floor this making the target mostly legs. When he reached for the gun would have still be a sitting and the shot hit what is was most likely - legs.
2. An alternative scenario is that whether the perp was sitting or standing in closet. When he reached for her firearm, she pulled down to place weapon out of reach and thus the weapon was pointing toward his legs. While she might (might) have been too close to perp she maintained the weapon on target rather than turning weapon away from perp to the sides.
Still nicely done.

Heck my .44 revolver, single action has only a 1 and a half pound trigger pull and I love it. Doesn't take but a half a sec to cock it but it is great when target shooting, just get the sights lined up and pow, no pulling off target.

Occam's RazorIn other words, she only got off a leg shot because riding a unicycle blindfolded while balancing a toaster on her nose threw off her balance.
Or she missed. She left the Goblin injured and very much if not more of a threat.
I am glad it worked out, but a little range time is still in order.

She missed the femoral artery. .38's are great for learning to shoot with, but step up a bit for your carry piece. At least use a hot load .38+P with a good hollowpoint bullet. This is your LIFE on the line here.

Please give us all a minute's warning before you start firing!

She aimed for the leg. didn't want to kill him.
She was interviewed on morning news show. Said she was never afraid, just angry. One of the news guys asked her if she had calls from GMA, Today, etc. She said she had not and doesn't care. "But if Rush or Sean called I would talk to them".
Morning talk show host played the most pertinent part of the 911 tape. In the background you hear the woman screaming telling the guy to get down or she would shoot. Then a gunshot. Then more of her screaming asking the guy how dare he come into her house.
Then,
Another gunshot.
Woman: Damnit! He got away!
911 Operator: Did she just shoot him again? Tell her to stop shooting him!
If anyone can find a link to that conversation, please post it.

She aimed for the leg. didn't want to kill him.I guess we have different training.
I'll ping a buddy or two familiar with firearm training and see what they say.
I guess the old school of aiming for center mass is no longer valid. Letting them go is new to me too. I guess I am getting old.

It takes a special kind of person to kill, Tom.
Look at how many cops expend all their rounds, and hit nothing.

I guess we have different training. Sounds more like a lack of training. If a center mass shot is available - take it. If not - shoot whats available. Two to the chest and one to the head is what was drilled into me, since you bring up training.
