Abrams asks why men looking for underage sex were allowed to walk free. TRANSCRIPT - During "Dateline NBC's" recent hidden camera investigation, 19 were caught going to a suburban home where they thought they'd be meeting with sexually available teens. Some made a run for it when they went into the kitchen and saw NBC's Chris Hansen waiting.
One came into the house completely naked and sat down in the kitchen, where Hansen met him and kindly handed him a towel to cover himself up. A rabbi was so upset at being caught that he even seemingly went after Hansen.
But why aren't any of these guys being prosecuted?

If you read the entire article you come away with a very bad feeling that the Authorities are loathe to prosecute these dangerous perverts. It is as though they are looking for any reason NOT to take any action. Very frustrating and depressing IMO.
I saw this and wondered why these peopel were not arrested.
From the story:
"police say no crimes were committed."
That's why.
You have to actually have been alleged to have committed a crime to get arrested.
I don't get it. Cops use this kind of sting operation all the time, don't they?
"police say no crimes were committed."
I think the cops go through certain procedures to make sure the perp actually commits some sort of crime.
Probably because it wasn't a police operation where they are careful to make sure that the charges won't be dismissed on technicalities. NBC, OTOH, is free to do whatever it likes to entice the men to come to the house.
So, where's Ronnie Earle when he's really needed?
Now, now now, we must not be judgemental here. Isn't that the lessons that the Clintons taught us?
Cops do.
When date line does it the perverts will scream entrapment. and they may be right.
In a normal sting, you bait the alleged perp to a point of no return. I sat on a jury regarding a prostituion sting case once and we debated this. How far is far enough to say a crime was committed if the sting ends before the crime actually takes place?
In my case, the offer for money was considered enough. In an underage sex sting, I don't know how far it has to go. Maybe "Dateline" should have had a skanky teen in a dimly lit room only to surprise the perp when he makes his move.
I know of at least one similar case where I live that was prosecuted. Undercover setup also. Why both with these stings if they have no intention of prosecuting them?
Because it's a NBC show and not an actual police operation. Given Dateline's history of distorting facts, fear the day when the MSM can run a sting and arrest people. For now, the MSM must settle with only being able to humiliate folks on TV.
That said, I want to see these pervs put away too. That they prey on our children is beyond criminal...it's evil. There are police-run stings like this that do produce results. I hope to someday be on a jury that has a case like this.
I'm confused. I thought they said on the dateline show that the group that assisted NBC was organized exactly to do this type of sting and feed information to police for prosecution. And I thought they provided all the data to the police.
And I thought they said that it was a crime to merely send e-mails like the e-mails that were sent, even if the person you send them to is old enough, if it can be shown you thought they were younger (a law written obviously to allow police to conduct stings).
So I assumed they would be prosecuted under that law.
I told my daughter about that show just to re-inforce why we don't let her use chat rooms.
My wife and I watched that show "on and off" because we couldn't really stand the show but wanted to understand the issue. You would think that some of those people, having appeared on TV, would be experiencing some difficulty.
That one guy they caught twice was scary. I think he's the one who stripped in the garage.
For sure the 9th Circus would let these pervs walk.
What the heck is Dateline thinking here? Why is the news department performing sting operations? That's attempting to make the news, not report it.
Oh well, I guess they had to do something now that they can't use explosives to blow up cars and pretend it was faulty gas tanks.
"When date line does it the perverts will scream entrapment. and they may be right."
I was thinking about that. If Dateline invited them over, I think that would be entrapment. Same with the cops. They probably have to have the perp make the meeting arrangements with stated intent.
A much better "sting" would be for them to be shot with a .357, not just a camera!
Hey Joe Friday would have arrested them and we would have heard the disposition of the cases by program end. That was real wan't it? Wasn't it?
