State of Emergency Begins in France
Fox News ^

PARIS — Rioters defied a state of emergency that took effect Wednesday, as they looted and burned two superstores, set fire to a newspaper office and paralyzed France's second-largest city's subway system with a firebomb.

However, the number of car burnings — a barometer for the unrest — dropped sharply, suggesting the movement lost steam. Overnight Tuesday to Wednesday, youths torched 617 vehicles, down from 1,173 the previous night, national police spokesman Patrick Hamon said. Incidents were reported in 116 towns, down from 226 the night before.

President Jacques Chirac announced extraordinary security measures, which began Wednesday and are valid for a 12-day state of emergency, clearing the way for curfews after nearly two weeks of rioting that began in neglected and impoverished suburban neighborhoods with large Muslim communities.

The French capital and its suburbs, as well as more than 30 other cities, were covered by the state-of-emergency decree, according to a government bulletin published Wednesday. It empowers officials to put troublemakers under house arrest, ban or limit the movement of people and vehicles, confiscate weapons and close public spaces where gangs gather.

Towns included on the list stretched from Nice on the Mediterranean to Strasbourg on the German border and Le Havre on the English Channel, giving an indication of how widespread the unrest has become.

Morning Ivan. You shouldn't hold back your feelings. Let go on occasion and REALLY let those feelings flow. Not good to keep it all bottled up inside.

PS- I feel the same way. I evacuated my four girls during RITA, but our neighbors that stayed patrolled with shotguns. Looters showed up at dusk. Took one look at the 12 gauges, and left our side of town. Peace through superior firepower.

Stay safe,

WW

Ivan,

Stunning, succinct post delivered with the subtlety of a pit bull.
I shall be watching for the response from Chirac.

Cheers

Yes--it's organized now, and the bosses are testing for weaknesses. And the weaknesses are legion! What they're learning now will be invaluable. All this army needs are some guns to finish the takeover.

That certainly smacks of organization -- they are intentionally limiting things to property damage (with very few exceptions). I think maybe even the French would have the stomach for a fight if it was to protect people from being hurt and killed. If it's just property damage, we'll, c'est la vie.

Bingo.
The French know this. They know who's doing it too. If nothing else they have great intel with sneaky communications.
They don't have the stomach to do what they have to do with it. Their own "one drop of French blood" legacy bites them in L'Ass yet again.

starfish, if i read your post correctly, you could not be more wrong. islam could care less about material things, this is not about having, its about conquering in the name of their god. and btw, how utterly ridiculous to assuage our own idiocy, ie the wests, by allowing these people into our homes in order to HELP them. love would mean you make them help themselves, by themselves, for themselves. with help of course.

I think Steyn had it right. These are the opening skirmishes. The sky isn't falling quite yet, but once this settles down, there may be some intensive recruiting from AQ types. I don't see any evidence that AQ is at the controls of this. Anyone who's lived in France could tell you this has been brewing for many years, and it's not the first time the Arab street has revolted in some fashion. But given the copycat torchings in Belgium, we're on the cusp of something much worse than what we're seeing today.

No, this isn't the end of France. The U.S. and Britain would re-invade before allowing a Muslim revolution to overthrow the French Republic.

That depends on whether your metaphor for a bad area is that things are "hot" there, or amounts to a "high pressure" situation.

The middle class, wealthy, educated, successful and business people don't emigrate from their homelands....only the "less than".....do.

My doctor is from India. My Dentist is from Vietnam. My pharmacist is from Pakistan.

So either the supply of cars to burn is depleted by those already torched or the public is using protective camoflage -- a koran on the seat, some "Ala Akbar" sticker on the bumper, or a air-fragance dangle hanging from the rear-view with a photo of Mecca on it.

Chirac is going to be known as the man who brought down the Fifth Republic, if he continues in this vein. He is so besotted with himself, so full of vanity and self-regard, that he ought to do something to avoid this fate.

Regards, Ivan

The Season of Jihad

The worldwide Islamic jihad has begun. The riots in France are not isolated incidents of “disenfranchised Muslim youths”. They are being organized and coordinated by adults. Shortly after the rioting began, French police discovered at least one warehouse facility that contained bomb making ingredients, Molotov cocktails, black masks to hide behind, motorcycles and cell phones. This “insurgency”, or more appropriately—terrorism—was planned. The Islamic mayhem in France and Denmark, and now the beginnings of the same chaos in Germany and Belgium, are neither unexpected nor are they coincidences.

On 31 October, in Denmark’s Jyllands-Posten, it was reported that riots in Denmark began at almost the same time, as did the riots in France. The newspaper wrote (translated from Danish): “For several nights in a row, there have been the worst riots in Århus for many years. "This land belongs to us", declared the young rioters. Another arson attack took place Sunday night. Sunday evening the fire department needed police escorts to get in and extinguish an arsonist fire in Søndervangs Alle. The words of the young Muslims sound like an open declaration of war against Danish society. The police must stay away. This area belongs to immigrants.” The paper further reports that the riots had been planned for three weeks prior to their implementation.

Monday, members of an Islamic terrorist cell planning what was said to be a major terrorist event were uncovered, arrested and stopped; preventing what is being called a “catastrophic act of terrorism”. There are rumblings that a major terrorist “event” is also planned for Los Angeles.

Holland and the other Scandinavian countries are now preparing for unrest within their own territories.

The “disenfranchisement” and “low-pay-for-immigrants” argument is being used—by the Left—to the hilt. Some of it, but not to the extent the leftist media would have us believe, does exist.

Note: When the ‘big lie’ is told, it’s always good to have some grain, no matter how small, of truth. That way, it sells better.

However, in regards to the disenfranchisement argument, the majority of Muslims in Europe have refused to assimilate into their adopted countries. Instead, they are demanding portions of land in these countries be ceded to them, so that they can operate separately and apart from the rest of each country’s population. They have no intention of integrating into other societal cultures. Calling them “places of sin”, in France Muslims have already been successful in closing down shops selling liquor and pork, movie theaters and dance halls; in the areas containing large Muslim populations. Considering there are at least 6 million Muslims in France (or 10% of its population) that’s a good-sized territory.

Although one French Muslim leader, Mouloud Dahmani, said “All we demand is to be left alone", it is evident to all who can see and hear that their intention is to destabilize—then take over—European governments. That is what they are now attempting. This is, after all, the bottom line of Islam—worldwide domination. And it has become evident that they plan to acquire it; via any and all necessary means and measures.

Whether it will acknowledge it or not, Europe is now at war with Islam. It is already patently evident that Islam is at war with Europe. President Bush and his supporters saw this early on. It is just taking the ultra-leftist Europeans longer to absorb the truth of what is happening. And many of these still refuse to concede it.

History continues to tell us—veritably shouting it at us—that appeasement of one’s enemies doesn't’t work. Never has and never will. France, as usual, continues to learn this lesson the hard way.

One thing is crystal clear. Just as with 9/11, with the arrival of the Islamic Season of Jihad nothing on the planet will ever again be the same. Many believe that this is the beginning of the final war on the planet. If so, it is one that free societies must win over suppressive and despotic barbarism. The alternative is truly and unequivocally the end of civilization.

Anybody who owns a car in the riot areas has either already had their car burned, or they have gotten their car the hell out of the area. Hence, the number of cars burned is dropping. The scumbags are moving on to other targets.

what interests me is that there have been so few casualties

///////////////////////////////////////////////////

So few casualties due to so little opposition. The only danger is if they accidentally burn themselves. The Gendarmes don't get close enough to shoot at and don't openly oppose them. This is the true benefit of enlightened appeasement. The disenfranchised youth get the chance for meaningful self expression and the authorities can apologize for their heartlessness and insensitivity that produced the disaffection. Then as the country burns, leadership can plan the concessions and capitulations that will make the children of Allah more secure and at peace with their religion as they plot to eventually rule the entire continent.(sarc.)

The movement lost steam? 617 vehicles in one night is a sign they are giving up? Good Lord. You just have to laugh at how the MSN is reporting on this. Last night ABC News spent 5-times more time reporting on the annual migration of the Monarch Butterfly that they did the unrest in France. No kidding
