I really wish people would stop stamping all of Islam with Wahabbism.
Indonesia is the most populous Muslim nation on Earth and quite peaceful, and a democracy. Ditto Turkey.
You anger and vituperations are meaningless unless directed at the legitimate target, which is Wahabbism. The first step in winning a war is properly identifying the enemy. Apparently many on Free Republic are unwilling to do this, desiring instead to use Wahabbism to defame a religion they feel threatened by as Christians.
Well, here's what Daniel Pipes has to say about islam in Indonesia:
In Sulawesi, Islamists have deployed roadblocks, armored bulldozers and rocket launchers, thereby isolating the indigenous Christian community. They have also systematically targeted Christians, forcing them to convert, circumcising their children, burning churches and other buildings.
In all, Muslim-Christian clashes in Indonesia have killed more than 19,000 since 1999 and left over 600,000 displaced from their homes.
As for Turkey, it was forcibly secularized, and is civilized only to the extent it can suppress islam. We in the West have come to realize that islam IS jihad, given the reality of islam as demonstrated by the life of Mohamed , the Koran, the hadiths, and islam's long and bloody history.
Awful lot of dead Christians in Indonesia for it to be considered peaceful.
Turkey is peaceful ONLY because it is kept strictly secular. It is not a moslem country. It is a secular country with a moslem majority. Whenever it becomes a moslem country you'll see the peace collapse and non-moslems killed for being non-moslems.

Moslems can't help but be terrorists, their religion commands it. Have you never read the koran or hadith? Haven't you been paying attention? Wahhabism is the truest form of islam alive today (The taliban was actually closer to the koran but we took care of that issue). As long as islam exists it will try to impose itself on civilized nations. That is the nature of this particular beast.
Islam is the enemy
Read any newspapers from there recently? It's not all sweetness, light and toleration there. Radical Islamists have been on murderous rampages for a decade or more, with the government reluctant to act unless the West is involved, ala the Bali bombings.
But for the people of places like Sulawesi, they constantly live under the specter of Jaamaah Islamayah violence, in that organization's blatant attempt to make Indonesia a totally Islamic state...
As far as Turkey goes, they've had a pretty long run as an Islamic/secular state, due to Kemal Ataturk's prescient insistence that mosque and state be separate. It worked for a while, but the face of Turkey is changing, slowly, but inexorably, into a far more Islamic state than Turkey has been since the Ottoman Empire fell.
