White House to 'hit back' at Democrats Aides plan aggressive response to claims intelligence misused
From Dana Bash CNN Washington Bureau Tuesday, November 8, 2005; Posted: 11:55 p.m. EST (04:55 GMT)
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Top White House officials say they're developing a "campaign-style" strategy in response to increasing Democratic allegations that the Bush administration twisted intelligence to make its case for war.
White House aides, who agreed to speak to CNN only on the condition of anonymity, said they hoped to increase what they called their "hit back" in coming days.
The officials say they plan to repeatedly make the point -- as they did during the 2004 campaign -- that pre-war intelligence was faulty, it was not manipulated and everyone was working off the same intelligence.
They hope to arm GOP officials with more quotes by Democrats making the same pre-war claims as Republicans did about Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction.
Democrats have pointed at declassified information they say shows the White House was "deceptive" in pre-war statements.
Telegraphing the beginning of a communications effort is a tactic the Bush team has used in the past, especially when it comes to Iraq.
The examination into the intelligence used to justify invading Iraq has intensified on the heels of the October 28 indictment of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, who resigned the day he was indicted. (Full story)

That's exactly what he had to do in 2004 and in 2000 plus the tax cuts and the list is endless. You have to bypass the media and the RATs and take it to the American people -- you are so right.
The MSM is getting worse by the day and I didn't think that was possible but they manage to sink to new lows almost every day.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
I did answer the question. With the exception of smiling more, there isn't really any difference. That has been my point all along. People think changing the spokeperson will be some panacea to GOP morale. Unless the next person has a nice warm smile, you probably won't see any difference.
Sorry, I just don't think the 'pubbies are capable of this, at least not for any longer than it takes for the first cries of "politics of personal destruction!" to arise.
Ok, then a better question would be what do you propose?
What approach would YOU take and why? How would YOU change things?
This should be a productive discussion, not just what is wrong but how to make it better and you have implied you know the answer.
He may have balls but he has no *enis!
Well Doggie,
Alright I'm in, let's fight!!!
About time the administration grew a set and start using them.
Their letting the dems get too many cheap shots
LOL! Beauty. Very nice. :o)
Propose about what? Reread my original comments in post #30. My whole point is that whoever the Whitehouse spokesman is, is essentially irrelevant. The Whitehouse Press corps will write their trash no matter who stands at the podium. And if the GOP requires a clever spokesperson to "boost morale" our troubles are deeper than most evidence would indicate.
Like a stupid fighter, waiting till the tenth round of a twelve-round bout to go for the knockout, when there isn't enough punch left to knock over a glass of milk.
I hope they do something. Like Horowitz said, Republicans really need to learn how to fight the war of politics.
The RATS and Clymer episodes have something in common: they both added nouns to the language a proper noun and a common noun, respectively. Both are useful to describe the same sort of people.
Guess the ethics class didn't take today, huh?
doug, he talked about it today, too.. there was a lot of eye-rolling on today's show, I think he's getting as frustrated by the silence as a lot of us are.
There is a few people they could sell tickets to watch take on Helen Thomas, David Gregory, etc.
Did you watch when Ari was Press Secretary? He was masterful.
You may have just hit on something. The White House hasn't fired on all 8 cylinders since she hasn't been there working directly with the President on a daily basis.
Oh, come on! You're not a proponent of the Great Mushy Offensive?
