Iran says EU not serious in fight against terrorism

Iranian Ambassador to the European Union Dr. Ali Ahani has criticized what he said were the EU's "double standards" with regard to the fight against terrorism.

In an interview with the Belgian VRT television Monday night, Ahani said the permission given to the terrorist MKO grouplet to hold rallies and continue their activities in European countries shows that the EU is not serious in the fight against terrorism.

About 300 supporters of the MKO held a rally near the EU's headquarters in Brussels Monday to call on EU foreign ministers to remove the group from the EU's terror list. The group expected "thousands" to turn up for the rally.

The EU put the MKO in its terror list in 2002 in an effort to fight global terrorism.

Ahani said the MKO grouplet was holding such gatherings in order to prevent its collapse following the fall of its main supporter, Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, and the repentance and return of over 500 MKO members to Iran.

EU foreign ministers, in their meeting in Brussels Monday, reviewed the EU's overall approach to Iran.

Referring to the EU's call on Iran for greater cooperation in the fight against terrorism and respect for human rights, Ahani said Iran's position on the issues are clear.

He noted that Tehran, in talks with the EU, had proposed formation of a working group to combat terrorism.

Ahani said respect for human rights and its advancement is a firm policy of the Islamic Republic.

Commenting on the nuclear issue, the Iranian ambassador said that after the EU Council expressed readiness to resume talks Tehran also welcomed and made a similar offer for resumption of talks.

They know this because they haven't seen any EU troops invading them.

I also say that the EU is not serious in fight against terrorism. If the it was the world vs terroist states, Iran would be voting in a new constitution by now also.

they are right, the world and the eu are not serious about fighting terrorism.

thats why they have been able to expand their sphere of influence virtually unimpeded.

their philosophy is alive in france today, and their flag hoisting will be at 2 pm this afternoon. test firing of their new nuclear weapons will be at 3.

nuclear weapons at home by 4 pm and israel will be wiped off the map
