Ohio Issues Promoting Campaign Corruption Overwhelm Voters with Hundreds of Words of Legalese
American Family Ohio Voting Guide ^ | 8 Nov 05

Posted on 11/08/2005 6:27:00 AM PST by xzins

THE TRUTH, folks, is that these are all extremely detailed issues written in bizarre LEGALESE. There are hundreds of words on these things, and most people can't even begin to explain what they'll do....or what POLITICIANS and LAWYERS will do WITH THEM in the years to come.

Vote NO on all issues JUST TO SEND THE MESSAGE that politicians should not clutter up ballots with hundreds of words of legalistic junk that no one can understand in the few minutes they get to stand inside a voting booth!

Issues:

1. The Pro “Crony Finance” Amendment. This supposed “pro job” amendment has helped only 450 people so far at the tune of over 700,000 dollars per job, doling out over 300 million corporate socialism dollars to just a relatively few companies. Politicians helping their friends: and they want 2 billion dollars more for other political cronies. Vote NO on Issue 1.

2. The Pro “Voter Fraud” Amendment. This amendment will make it possible for voting to go on for days and days (over a month) and no one is required to vote in their own precinct or prove their identity. (We'll turn into Mexico, folks!) Vote NO on Issue 2.

3. The Pro “Campaign Corruption” Amendment. This lets unions, factions, splinter groups, pac-like groups, and sects funnel huge amounts of money into campaigns, but restricts individual voters like YOU. Vote NO on Issue 3.

4. The Anti “Home Districts” Amendment. Instead of voting districts that are near your home, this amendment will let politicians design voting districts that could stretch across the entire state. Vote NO on Issue 4.

5. The Pro “Voter Confusion/Florida Copycat” Amendment. This amendment will put our elections in the hands of appointed political cronies instead of accountable, elected officials. We don't want Washington activists counting “hanging and pregnant chads" in Ohio and telling us what to do. Vote NO on Issue 5.

THE TRUTH, folks, is that these are all extremely detailed issues written in bizarre LEGALESE. There are hundreds of words on these things, and most people can't even begin to explain what they'll do....or what POLITICIANS and LAWYERS will do WITH THEM in the years to come. When you walk in the voting booth you’ll see HUNDREDS of words.

Vote NO on all issues JUST TO SEND THE MESSAGE to Columbus that we don't want them cluttering up our ballots with hundreds of words of legalistic junk that no one can understand in the few minutes they get to stand inside a voting booth!

Every radio station I've heard today warns people that it'll take A LOT of time in the voting booth just to READ these issues.

On that basis alone, people should vote against them.

They're saying to plan extra time, prepare to stand in line...and honest to goodness....bring snacks and water for the wait!

Absolutely dumbfounding!

Well since I just voted No anyway, I didn't read them! I already know how bad they are, thanks to everyone here at FR, and also Quinn and Rose (local eastern OH/Western PA talk show out of Pittsburgh).

It took me exactly 10 minutes to vote today.

I hope the line isn't long, because it will oly take me a minute to vote, once I get in that booth.

They're terrible!

It'll take an average reader over 5 minutes just to read them. And if they try to read for comprehension......

One amendment we do need: no election should be allowed to have this many of these long things on the ballot.

I keep driving by to see if the line has gone down.

I'm thinking that 2 pm it might be slow. At some point, I'll have to break down and just wait in line.

We all know that this is John Kerry's friends launching one more attack on Ohio.

That can't get over losing, so they're trying to change an honest system into a corrupt one.

They figure it's a 50/50 gamble all based on turnout.

They are detestable human beings.

After the polls were open for an hour and and a half (I always vote about that time) we only had 59 voters......not many for my precinct...

In 2004 it took 2 hours to vote when I walked in at that same time then.

Until the results are in I'll be freaking out......

The entire US constitution isn't a whole lot longer than these few issues.

Where's my ride to my sister's voting place? I want a carton of cigarettes. Don't they do this over the fome yet?

My husband and I both voted this morning at about 7:30. Hardly anyone else was there. We have the new touch-screen booths--no trouble at all to operate, unless you're from Florida.

That first proposed amendment had some problematic language related to eminent domain as well. It defined "public use" WAY too broadly. I already knew to vote "no," but that clause really rocked me back on my heels. The nerve, after Kelo v. New London! The nerve!

I fear for my state.

Another phrase that I didn't like so much from Issue 3 was this one:

· Permit labor unions, and other nonprofit unincorporated membership organizations, to contribute funds from regular membership dues paid by the organization's individual members to a small donor action committee. The small donor action committee is not required to report the names of individuals who contribute in this fashion.

As soon as I realized that the union that represents me(AFSCME)was in favor of the issues, I decided to vote NO. If AFSCME is for it, I'm agin' it...
