Worst 10 states for auto-deer collisions
Pennsylvania has the highest number of accidents, according to a survey by insurer State Farm.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Pennsylvania ranks first among the top ten worst states for vehicle-deer collisions, according to an insurance survey published Thursday.
Citing claim statistics, auto insurer State Farm said that drivers in Pennsylvania experienced more deer collisions than any other state between July 1, 2004 and June 30, 2005.
State Farm estimates that 1.5 million vehicles collide with deer every year, resulting in 150 motorists deaths and $1.1 billion in vehicle damages.
With deer migrating and mating season occurring between October and December, the auto insurer says a higher number of deer are near roads this time of year.

Triage on elk? ;-)
We're #3!
I live near the largest Forest Preserve in Cook County; I mean within a few hundred yards. My current record for the number of deer in my yard at any one time is 6.
Back during the Y2K run-up, people were talking about what to do if the local stores ran out of food. I told people, "No problem, I've got plenty of dog food." They wanted to know if I was planning to eat dog food. I said, "No. I'll just throw some out in the back yard and sit in my kitchen with my shotgun in my hands and the window open. Inside of an hour I'll be slaughtering vension."
I prefer a little more sport in my prey.
I have a weekend house with a little over an acre in PA (Delaware Water Gap area) I totally believe it. Twice a day I have at least 4 or 5 munching away on our property. They wander around in the middle of the road in front of our house.
Seriously, I expected it to be states that are the most oppressive anti-gun/anti-deer-hunting states:
1. California
2. New York
3. Maryland
4. Illinois
5. New Jersey
6. Washington State
7. Massechusettes(sp)
8. Every other state
I guess you need non-paved area to have deer.
"There was a woman who used to work in the bar I frequent that has many deerhunters as patrons. She once said that she didn't have a problem with all deer hunters only the ones that left the deer on the side of the road. She also contributed five bucks to the Widow of the Unknown Soldier collection. True story. She was blonde."
So your making fun of me because I'm charitable and dont like messy hunters? ;)
I've even heard stories that certain rural school districts close for the day because so many teachers, bus drivers, and students take the day off its not worth the time and money to hold classes.
Its true.
Its true.
Plus the fact the school was never unlocked in the morning, the superintendent had gone deer hunting too.
Last minute Christmas shopping for the wife? :-)
Proof that Midwestern deer are the most stupid.
Brush guards? Out here in the country, we call them "cow catchers". It's amazing how many scanner calls are for "cows on the road". My son almost nailed one late at night....in front of the high school!! The cops go out, check the brand, and call the owner to come herd the critter back inside the fence.
Nope....born & raised in San Antonio......native Texan who happens to be a Yankee fan.
guess you never been north of NYC then... we gun-em down pretty good up here in WestNewYork and the herds are HUGH... i'm series!!! seeing over 100 in a large field is not uncommon.
When my husband and I moved to Jackson County from Oakland (MI) a couple of years ago, we specifically asked about coverage in case of a deer accident. Our insurance company was VERY good about it, outlined all the details and made sure we were well covered. In nearly 18 years of marriage, my husband's deer accident was the biggest one we've ever had. I doubt it will be our last, either! Trust me, that coverage might just pay for itself!
I lived in Oakland County for thirty-eight years. I grew up in Lake Orion and Clarkston, my husband is from Oxford, and we settled in Orion with our family until spring 2003. We never hit a single deer; we came close on a few dirt roads but never made contact.
In Waterloo (Jackson County) I've had more than my share of VERY close misses this month, but my husband actually nailed a buck with his pickup to the tune of $4,000. Oakland may have a greater population so the deer hits might be more numerous, but I think you personally stand a much greater chance out here in Jackson!!
No kidding. I've hit two myself. Bet a lot don't get reported also.
Møøse. Also known as a brick wall on stilts...
That depends entirely on how much life insurance she has...
Nope, never been there. But, with herds like that I am suprised you guys didn't make the cut.
The last place I saw a herd of deer was at Fort Knox, Kentucky. It was amazing, while on guard duty, at night, I would see a lot of them. They were not much bigger than a great dane, but they were pretty tough. They didn't even spook when the tank practice startted.
one night in august i counted 127 deer with the starlight scope from a friends deck spread out over three fields behind his house... a pack of horned rats that big can destroy a field in no time. they eat in vineyards and orchards and fields and are all fat dumb and happy bout now.
bow season is already underway but we'll be rockin their world here in another couple weeks... 8^)
