France: Riots 'out of control'

Paris - Riots in France's poor city suburbs appeared to be spiralling out of control on Monday after the worst night of violence to date, in which more than 30 police were injured and 1 400 cars burnt across the country.

"The shockwave has spread from Paris to the provinces," said Michel Gaudin, director-general of the national police.

For an 11th night in a row youths predominantly from France's large Arab-Muslim minority rampaged through their out-of-town neighbourhoods, setting fire to vehicles, businesses and public buildings and attacking police with stones and other projectiles.

Police figures showed that 1 408 vehicles were destroyed overnight - more than previous record of 1 300 on Saturday - and 395 people arrested. Most of the cars - nearly 1 000 - were targeted in towns and cities outside Paris, reflecting the way the violence has spread from its original flashpoint.

No wonder they aren't putting a stop to this. They're finally getting something good to eat.

It's the same thing that happened during Katrina....justify criminal acts with liberal ideolgy with regards to poverty, unemployment and living in a ghetto.

An idea....let's send John Kerry over there to advise...he understands the French SO well! (sarc)

Thanks for posting the map - it gives a good perspective of just how widespread this "rioting" is. It makes me wonder if we are witnessing the death of a western nation.

"Really? Seems to me that they sat on this story until they had no choice and have been significantly downplaying it."

My daughter came home from school today and said that a clssmate was grumbling about her father being "intolerant" because he would not let her go with the French Club on a planned trip to Paris in the spring. My daughter, who is also a FReeper, told het about the rioting. Oh. She hadn't heard. 10 days of it and this girl didn't know. Imagine that.

I believe that this report is a day late. The figures seem to be from Sunday night. Also, this report mentions the 11th night. I think that Monday would have been the 12th night.

shocking to see how fast this "riot" has spread throughout an entire country.

At what point will this "riot" be called a "revolt"...?

"...because they could blame Bush, here they can't..."They can and they will blame Bush. Soon we will be hearing nothing else -- "Bush's incursions into muslim countries bear bitter fruit in europe: Chirac says he warned of backlash." Liberals all over the country will take up the chant, as they and islamists work hand-in-hand to disaffect the public from the war on terror.

They've already come up with their story of blaming Bush; it's because he sent our troops into Iraq.....they "told him so" about insurrections it would cause among the Muslims.

Is there such a thing as a controlled riot?

Good question. The answer is, "no". They can spin this anyway they want to, but anyone with an ounce of sense can see that the riots are TOTALLY out of control. ;)

Sad to say I don't think the French Foreign Legion is allowed to carry weapons in France proper but shovels.

Still the Legion fighting with shovels is more effective than the regular french army not fighting with lots of weapons.

The media is waiting for someone to tell them how to spin this as Bush's fault. Once they come up with their approach they'll be all over it.

Correct.  The MSM spin machine is working overtime, as we speak, trying to find the right angle.

You can bet that if one of the "yutes" says on camera that it's about Iraq or Bush it'll be plastered across the nation.

How long before France falls? We need the picture of the Frenchman crying when the Nazis marched into Paris.

So at what point do we stop calling it a "riot" and start calling it what it really is?

Great point.

Do you think they're pondering that question in the commmie newsrooms?

A sobering commentary is to read The Camp of the Saints. Author: Jean Raspail. He first published it in 1973. His novel looks to the future and a mass invasion of France from the Ganges. Consider this extract at the beginning of Chapter 47.

"France has given in. The inevitable has happened. Now there's no turning back....." referring to the rest of the world, he goes on.

"Some will revel in our fall, some will suffer along with us,depending on where their sympathies lie".

We are told the Republic ends - not with the Marseillaise, but with the Requiem by Mozart. All this latest business gives me a sense of unease. All power to those who think it serves France right- maybe some of it does. It does not do Western civilization much good, I fear.

I don't understand. Chirac "called for calm".
I think it's time for some serious curfews.

Unfortunately, you are right.  Give it another day or two and that all we'll see.  And the usual talking heads will keep pushing it.

I thought it telling that O'Reilly has started using the word "Muslim," rather than "radical Muslims" or "Islamofascists. Just "Muslim."

It says France has a serious problem on it's hands, as does most all of socialist Europe

Any chance that U.S. liberals are paying attention to this? Nope, didn't think so .........
