Civil Unrest in France Enters 12th Night

PARIS Nov 7, 2005 — France will impose curfews under a state-of-emergency law and call up police reservists to stop rioting that has spread out of Paris' suburbs and into nearly 300 cities and towns across the country, the prime minister said Monday, calling a return to order "our No. 1 responsibility."

The tough new measures came as France's worst civil unrest in decades entered a 12th night, with rioters in the southern city of Toulouse setting fire to a bus after sundown and pelting police with gasoline bombs and rocks.

Rioters in the southern city of Toulouse ordered passengers off a bus and then set fire to it and pelted police with gasoline bombs and rocks. Youths torched another bus in the northeastern Paris suburb of Stains, national police spokesman Patrick Hamon said.

The way of a coward is to avoid and avoid - and then to use EXCESSIVE force.

Wouldn't be surprized to see massacres from the French authorities, eventually, not just a firm and measured response.

I am very worried about the effect of this French fun on our poor planet. Cars burning! What about KYOTO? I think the French need to have their hydrocarbon ration reduced. No heat this winter. You've spent it all burning cars and busses.

It is kind of like when parents must confront that they were bad parents for spoiling their children for 25 years. An individual or a country really cannot negotiate or finess themselves out of 25 years of bad decisions.

That's what Chirac gets for not having an exit strategy.

I have to fight the temptation of enjoying this.

Don't enjoy it. As much as we may believe that France deserves this or contributed to some of the root causes, it is not a good thing that muslims are rioting in a western democracy and getting away with it.

Imagine Christian riots in Saudi Arabia for 12 days that the authorities couldn't control.

Hahaha!  Good point.  The lefties must really be angry at the "yutes" for contributing to global warming.  Where's Al Gore?

Now these bottom-feeders think they have the RIGHT to break laws, not assimilate into society and make demands upon the government.

I'll dare say our own borders are worse.

I notice we aren't hearing anything from Johnny Depp about this... Anyone want to send the rioters a map to his villa?

You are right, it's hard not to gloat, but this is serious.  Most "race riots" don't go on this long and spread across an entire country like this.  We may see copycat violence spread throughout many parts of europe before it ends.

The best part of this article:

France "has not done everything possible for these youths, supported them so they feel understood, heard and respected," Chirac added.

Chirac, always tough on terrorism.

I'm guessing her car hasn't been firebombed. There is understandable satisfaction here that the French are reaping what they have sown, but the effects could easily spill over into other countries.

It hasn't happened yet, but how long before this becomes an official act of jihad? What would that mean?

Enjoy is probably not the word I would use to describe how this makes me (feel), but the thinking part of me concluded a couple days ago this is the monster global equivalent of Cindy Sheehan going off on her jew-bashing rant.

It is a massive, hugely recognized indication that something whose entire existence centered on opposing whatever America does which is right - is STOOPID.

When GWB stood up, grabbed a bullhorn and swore the people who knocked down those buildings would hear from us soon - France got in the way, complained and demanded accommodation with the very people who are now burning their country down.

Now the burning is moving to the other "old Europe" countries which so eagerly lined up next to sister Chirac. It is the public humiliation of Cindy Sheehan, on giant scale, playing out in the realm of geopolitics.

How are the French going to "impose" a curfew on these Islamalunies? Give them a piece of cheese, a glass of goat’s milk and ask them to go home and take a nap?

The complete and utter fantasy world that the French government is living in is the same exact fantasy world that the US government is living in...boy are we in trouble!

I think this form of combustion is very inefficient, and expels a lot of uncombusted particulates into the air which are subsequently precipitated. This probably holds true even for the gasoline in the tank.

If we consider that the car itself is now unavailable for further complete combustion of gasoline, I think these activities should be endorsed as part of Kyoto compliance.

Perhaps the Nation of French Islam should be awarded some bonus emission points in recognition of their innovative and farsighted environmental measures.

I read that the French army has a large Muslim enlistment and that there is concern about how loyal and effective those soldiers would be if deployed to stop the rioting.

I'm sure we could ask Nancy Pelosi for her comments on this.

I read the French press everyday: it's like a Saturday Night Live parody of political correctness.

The French have heard nothing but socialist lies for so long that they cannot even bear the pain of thinking about the truth.

These jeunes are the infantilised savages produced by a combination of French racism and socialist rewards for miscreant behavior and tolerance of crime.
