Chicago plans high school for black males
CHICAGO, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- The Chicago school district plans to open an all-boys high school primarily for black teenagers.
The Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men must be approved by the Board of Education this month, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Mayor Richard Daley plans to open 100 schools in the city in the next five years. Plans for the next two years include a virtual elementary school, a high school operated by the University of Chicago and a high school stressing business entrepreneurship.
Urban Prep would be located inside Englewood High School. Backers say it is aimed at a group that has the lowest graduation rate of any in the city.
"We're going to take our students where they are and help them gain admission to college and succeed once they are there," said Tim King, the founder of Urban Prep. "Clearly there is a high need for figuring out how to serve these kids academically."
Oooops....
--cricket sounds--
Get learnt or die trying.
That little experiment has been run a thousand times already.
Public school which were numbered in the past have for the most part been changed to names such as The Martin Luther King JR Acedemy of High Achievement. They have the same failure rates.
Changing the name of the school does nothing. It's the quality of character that makes all the difference.

Racism is racism.
This is simply one more misguided attempt at appeasement.. We'll treat you special because someone, decades ago, who wasn't the same color as you just might have been "unfair" to someone who might have been your ancestor.
Time to stop this type of nonsense!
oops..my fingers were typing faster than my brain was operating..usually I'm gud at spelnig..:)
You are so right...I've got to get this kumbaya stuff out of my system.
We have a school in our area that was originally started for black males only...they've since included girls.
But it is a private school for low-income, students that show promise, and I don't think in a public school arena they could enforce the level of discipline among the students and the parents that this private school does.
However, the way it's set up, it provides full scholarships to any students that is accepted. The scholarships are funded through donations from the community and fund-raisers.

"Clearly there is a high need for figuring out how to serve these kids academically."
Yes, just keep telling them they can't possibly make it in the real world and need special help. That will boost their self-esteem.
It's about time. All boy schools would solve LOTS of problems. All boy schools combined with corporal punishment would solve even more.
Headline is misleading. Mostly is NOT ALL Black school.
Anti-integration? What will the Dems think up next?!
Any mention as to what color the teachers will have to, ooops, primarily, be?
I agree. If the focus is really on education and overcoming cultural obstacles. Also, it underscores how foolish some of liberal programs are. In their effort to be "fair", the sacrifice excellence in virtually every case.
Will they be teaching foreign languages, such as...eh, um, English? Will the illegal Hispanics that run rampant throughout Chicagoland demand their own school also?
Signed up just to post that, troll?
I suppose you've never misspelled anything?

Will there be a "White Studies" department? |
Is that you out there Hootie? LOL
Separate but Equal, Part II.
On the other hand what will be the educational impact on all those white students who will lose out on the diversity of black males in their classrooms? How will they survive in the real world?
