CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) - Retail gas prices plunged an average of 23 cents nationwide in the past two weeks, marking a return to pre-Hurricane Katrina levels, according to a survey.
The weighted average price for all three grades declined to $2.45 a gallon on Friday, said Trilby Lundberg, who publishes the semimonthly Lundberg Survey of 7,000 gas stations around the country.
Self-serve regular averaged $2.43 a gallon nationwide. The price for midgrade was $2.53, while premium-grade hit $2.63.
The average pump price for all three grades on Aug. 29, the day Katrina made landfall on the Gulf Coast, was $2.65, according to the survey.
The lowest average price in the nation for regular unleaded among the stations surveyed was $2.06 a gallon in Tulsa, Okla. The highest was $2.74 in Miami
lol....thanks for giving me hope.....
Sure hope those moronic EPA gasoline rules stay suspended. The ones where our nation's refiners have to make 33 different types of gasoline for the environmentalist wackos
Octane 87 is $ 2.53 a gallon in Eureka Ca. Down from $3.45...
Erie, PA it's $2.08/gal. Drive 10-15 miles to the NY border, and it's $2.54/gal.
I bought regular unleaded on Friday for $2.02, so we're getting closer. Most stations were averaging around $2.04 except those bandits down by the interstate who average .25-.30¢/gal higher all the time because they know most people won't drive the extra few miles into town to save. I could understand a .05 or .10¢ difference, but that much seems a little excessive. Oh well, free market and all that.
Yeah...but what's the cost of brillo in Camarillo? I'll channel Frank Z and find out.

"The highest price for self-serve regular gasoline was in Honolulu at $3.03 a gallon, according to Lundberg.
The lowest was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at $2.20."
It is all about Supply and Demand...Plus Taxes.
The day I start worrying about gas prices, is the day I start walking... That being said, Joe/Jane 6-pack vote minute econ. issues, and the price of gas is a glaring example to them.
And we found out from the profit sheets that it was all for nothing except to make a buck. I'm all for free market, but it doesn't make me hate big oil greed any less. And I'm entitled to that, free market and all.
>>>Am I supposed to be dancing in the street? There's another dollar per gallon to go before I'll get worked up.>>>
BINGO!! People were screaming at $2.25 a gallon. So let's raise it up to $3.50 (and blame the ALREADY INCREASING PRICES on a lucky for oil industry on hurricanes) and then people will be GRATEFUL for $2.50 a gallon.
Hooey.
Gas prices in Colrado are down almost $.80 in about 3 weeks. I paid about $3.33 for premium 3 weeks ago and when I went doen the hill today I saw $2.53-2.58.
Diesel is down about $.50 in the last week or so.
Yeah, NY has made at least several million extra off of the revenue from the gas taxes. Of course, they'll never give us a tax return on it... just waste it on the cities.
