The US special forces will conduct a massive war drill near the Gulf of Oman to apparently convey a message to Iran that blocking the sea routes in the event of hostilities wont be possible.
The US defence department during a classified briefing to the senate armed forces committee said Iran is laying powerful underwater and surface water mines in the Strait of Hormuz but within its own territory.
The Pentagon suspects it is an offensive strategy, and Iran is training its forces to lay mines that could play havoc in a sea war.
To counter this, the US has already urged Russia and China not to sell sea mines to Iran or related advanced technologies which could be used against America and its allies in the region.
The US war drill in the Gulf of Oman could take place around February 2006 and there is a possibility that some Nato members may send their warships and troops to join.
Alongwith the US, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE and Yemen will participate, while Britain, The Netherlands, Spain and Italy have expressed a desire for such a war drill.
During the drill, the US and its allies will practice their minesweeping skills, and exercise their anti-submarine warfare, long-range maritime reconnaissance, and sea to surface attack capabilities.

SEALS at play.
Fat chance!
This may have been the 1st time I've seen the words "special forces" and massive in the same sentence ;)
I am more of the opinion than Iranians will rise up against this government and the Army there will just stand by.
I think the war with Syria is coming.
Wondering/hoping that myself. Perhaps the "fuse" for patience with muslims is gonna burn somewhat short soon pending the chain of events that follows France going down.
What the hell, lets party with both of em.
Very interesting!
At times, I too think that same thought. But then again... times a-wasting.
Classified? Where is Patrick Fitzgerald!
Left Wing Answer: What we need are UN sanctions.
French Answer: Give them understanding, it worked for us! *then speaker flees rioters*
Yea Baby!
Please chime in with your opinion on the following issue:
How many of you out there are tired and have had enough with our conventional warfare approach to these terrorist nations?
How many of you would prefer to see financial warfare declared against them--a total cut-off of aid? (Yes, we give MASSIVE amounts of aid to terrorist nations).
How many of you would prefer to see strictly air power used and special forces used to go after the leaders?
How many of you prefer assassination of leaders, air power, financial warfare and ZERO use of our regular army and Marines?
How many would rather see ZERO use of Army and Marines and threat (and use necessary) of tactical nukes?
I believe we should end this costly conventional war crap. It kills our best, and gains us little. I vote for air power use only, special forces only and assassination squads going after leadership and rulers. If they push the envelope far enough, I would then threaten then, if necessary, use tactical nukes.
Please ping others to vote. Please answer in narrative format but discuss use or nonuse of tactical nukes, special forces only, airpower without ground troops, and yes or no on NO USE OF REGULAR ARMY AND MARINES. It would be very valuable to get a poll on how our members feel on this.
But...but...but that blowhard Chavez said the U.S. is going to "invade and occupy" Venezuala next!!

So true.
I will be behind our troops 100% but I pray that Iran will fall from within. If it does Syria may have it's people demand a change.
We have been doing this and much more since Carter screwed the pooch for us over there.
((and I and many others have the Medals to prove it))
TT
I'll choose this with a side order of 7x24 carpet bombing...Rolling Thunder style if you please.
Almost forgot...NO rules of engagement!
