Bush Sends Eid al-Fitr Greetings to the World's Muslims Eid al-Fitr holiday marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan

President Bush sent greetings to Muslims around the world November 4 on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, the festival that ends the holy month of Ramadan.

In a White House press statement, the president welcomed the generous contributions of American Muslims to relief efforts in the wake of hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma.

Following is the text of the press statement:

(begin text)

THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary (Mar del Plata, Argentina) November 4, 2005

I send warm greetings to American Muslims and Muslims around the world observing Eid al-Fitr, the Festival of Breaking the Fast.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a time of prayer, reflection, and fasting. It is the holiest month of the Muslim year. To celebrate this holiday, many Muslims gather in their homes and mosques to thank God for His blessings and His help in keeping the fast. Muslims also demonstrate their compassion by reaching out to the less fortunate and giving gifts of money or food to help those in need. This year, many American Muslims have reached out to the victims of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma and to those affected by the devastating earthquake in South Asia. Their contributions have been generous and reflect the important values shared by all Americans.

Our Nation is blessed to count many Muslims among our fellow citizens. As Americans, we share a commitment to family, a belief in God's justice and man's moral responsibility, and hope for a future of peace and tolerance.

Laura and I send our best wishes for a joyful celebration. Eid Mubarak.

GEORGE W. BUSH

Thanks for reminding us.

And all done in the name of "Allah the merciful."

Study the history and foundation of Islam and find out for yourself. I recommend reading some Robert Spencer to start with. The Muslim terrorists are simply following the correct historic interpretation of the Koran, the literal interpretation that was followed by Mohammed. The Muslim terrorists have not perverted their religion. To the contrary, they are the most observant followers of the teachings.

Was it Abdullah's aftershave? the twinkle in his eye? the sensuous roll of his belly? or just the seductive way he whispered, "the Jews did 9-11" ?

what is he supposed to say... Go Die Muslims?

Why do you think the only two options are either kissing Islamics' asses or condemning them to hell? There's a third option, you know: Do and say nothing. It worked for Reagan, but then again he wasn't obsessed with winning "hearts and minds" that can't be won.

You should know that FR has its share of muslim appeasers and apologist...just like france. They'll never get it. At least until it's them or one of their family members head on the chopping block. Their epiphany will come too late.

Apparently, you haven't seen public opinion polls from Muslim countries.

Like I said, there are plenty of peaceful Muslims (possibly as many as 50%), but one should not pretend that radical Islam only comprises a tiny percentage of Islam; that would be a dangerous miscalculation.

Greetings not2worry:

Why waste a single American life to change the Middle East?

We tried that during the Clintonista era. It brought us 9/11.

We've battled Islaminazi fanaticisms on and off since the Quasi War. We've battled England twice, without ever calling it war against "Christianity."

Cheers,
OLA

"President Bush has said all along that Islam is a religion of peace. He believes it. Why shouldn't I?"

Yes, Pres. Bush has the entire intelligence network at his disposal, and all we have are our lying eyes.

Sorry for the sarcasm, but where exactly are these 'peaceful' muslims? They aren't in Thailand because they butcher Thai monks, women and chidlren. They aren't in Afghanistan or Iraq because they're killing their own and trying to overthrow their governments, and before that they were fighting the United States. Before that they were fighting Iran and Russia.

So where do we turn to find "peaceful" muslims? To the Philippines where they bomb and terrorize civilians and want to seceed from the government? Or do we look to Kashmir where they terrorize Indians and even murder earthquake rescuers?

Do we look to Africa where the Islamonazis are busy slaughtering and enslaving Christians, or do we find the 'peaceful' muslims in Indonesia where the Christian minority are regularly attacked and always oppressed? In Egypt the Christian minority carry guns for protection from the 'peaceful muslims'. So where can I find them?

I've looked at Saudi Arabia, homeland of Osama bin laden and Western-hating wahabbism, and where they won't allow the practice of any faith other than Islam, under threat of public execution, and I don't find many 'peaceful' muslims there. Where are they?

Are the 'peaceful' muslims in Yemen where they attacked our Navy and killed 17 of our sailors? Or are our 'peaceful' Islamic friends in Turkey, whose government told us to go pound sand up our arses when we asked if we could use their airspace in the Iraq war?

Frankly, I don't think 'peaceful' muslims exist anywhere, except in the minds of fools.

And meanwhile the term 'Merry Christmas' is not permitted in a number of American Schools - Yet another victory for PC.

"Last time I checked, we're at war with terrorists who've perverted the message of Islam for their own selfish designs"

You care to enlighten us as to what the message of Islam is, and how that message was 'perverted' by Islamic terrorists? I'd love to learn.

Why waste a single American life to change the Middle East?

An excellent question. A better one would be "why waste a single American life to try and change the Middle East?

"I tend to agree that, while most Muslims seem peaceful, they certainly do not loudly condemn the actions of the minority that are not....If we had large demonstrations denouncing islamofascism by so called moderate muslims, then that would be encouraging."

You seem like a nice person, so please do not hold your breath waiting for 'moderate' muslims to condemn their terrorist brothers.

You better believe GW is getting a letter from me. Sounds like he's forgotten who the enemy is. Between this and his stance on illegal immigration, I think he's drinking again.

"We've battled Islaminazi fanaticisms on and off since the Quasi War. We've battled England twice, without ever calling it war against "Christianity."

Then again, when England attacked us twice it was never under the banner of Jesus Christ, but under orders of their own king to expand their empire.

On the other hand, when muslims all over the world attack Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and even each other, it is always under the banner of "allah" and the "prophet".

Not really. There is a thread about the Germans sending Eid greetings, with lots of folks calling names. Our own President recognizes that it is not Islam that is attacking, it is a small percentage of Muslims.

Since I count a few Muslims as friends, I know this to be true, as does our President, apparently.

But...the thread may end up getting pulled I suppose.

Does your ignorance always precede you?

Let me ask you, what have your "muslim friends" done to express outrage at what that "small percentage of muslims" do?

What's your answer to the multitude of muslims that if given the choice would first slit your throat than turn on their muslim breathren, perhaps simply out of fear for their own lives?

Just curious. I've had some muslim friends too before we moved. But that doesn't mean I'd trust them babysitting my children and I certainly wouldn't turn my back on them in a dark alley. Perhaps you can explain to all the people here how to tell the difference between the multitude of muslims that have passed through our society and all, educational institutions, work places, other places, without any sort of incident whatsoever prior to crashing planes into one of the most prominent landmarks in our nation?

Can you? Because I believe you'd be up for a Nobel Peace Prize if you can and I'll be the very first to nominate your, rather send your name in as a likely nominee!
