Yes, indeed, Carter bares a lot of responsibility for the defeat of the Shah of Iran, which gave rise to the resurgence of the extremist, fanatical Islam in Iran, gave it a base, from where to spread, eventually giving rise to terrorist groups, like Al Qaeda.

If the US had helped the Shah of Iran, one of our great allies in the Middle East, he would have succeeded in modernizing the Middle East and things would have been very very different.

What a different world it might be today, if that brainless wonder, Jimmy "Peanut Head" Carter, has not been President. Imagine the Shah's son running Iran today, no 20 years of Iran exporting terror, $10/barrel oil, etc, etc.

these businessmen told the Shah that Pres. Carter wanted a contract. previously awarded to Brown & Root to build a huge port complex at Bandar Mahshahr, to be cancelled and as a personal favor to him to be awarded to the visiting group at 10 percent above the cost quoted by Brown & Root.

Guess the animosity towards Halliburton goes back decades for the Democrats.

In a just world, this waste of good oxygen would have been put up against the wall decades ago.

Some claim he was inept and ignorant, others that he was allowing his liberal leanings to overshadow US national interests.....TRUER WORD WERE NEVER SPOKEN.

This week, once again, "Jimma" proved that nothing, I mean nothing, not even time can FIX STUPID.

I'm only posting it, no idea on the credibility of the author. Sure explains a lot of history though.

I don't know, but it's the best explanation I have read. I was not very politcally astute when Carter was pres, but I do remember watching Iran basically being handed over to Khomeini by Carter. I didn't know a thing about Islam at the time, but I knew a scarey dude when I saw one, and he was a VERY scarey dude.
I wondered at the time how anyone could be so stupid (I was about 23, and I could see how stupid it was). Greed makes far more sense. In fact, I wonder if Carter has dedicated himself to Habitat for Humanity as penance...

...questioning whether Carter was a Russian mole...

Carter, so hard to figure out. However, if you assume he was (and is) beholden to Communists, it all makes sense.
