It wasn't enough for him to see to it his wife died a slow agonizing death, now he needs to get into politics to make sure others who disagree with him do too. IMHO Schivo and Hillary have a lot in common.

Why not an ad showing Bush hobnobbing with Clinton? Then show an ad with Hugh Rodham, receiving cash for his brother-in-law's pardon of a crack dealer? Then say, "I don't like Clinton or his buds."

the Schiavo case was any different from the tens of thousands of other cases a year in which a family in the US decides to take a patient who will never recover off of life support to let them go back to god.

Terri Schiavo wasn't on life support...they starved her to death. Removing a person from life support when all their major organs have shut down is quite different, IMO, from being starved. I've read that starvation is a horrible death, and being removed from life support isn't. I've never personally seen either, so I only know what I've read about it.

"I fail to see how ... the Schiavo case was any different ... in which a family ... decides to take a patient ..."

Then you don't understand the Schiavo case, which was not about a family making a decision for the patient.

"Terri Schiavo wasn't on life support."

Some consider a surgically implanted feeding tube to be life support, especially when the patient cannot voluntarily swallow anything.

"I've read that starvation is a horrible death ..."

I suppose it could be, if your brain were capable of perceiving horror -- which Terri's was not.

There is a huge difference between taking someone off of life-support and removing a feeding tube.

The rats are the party of death, what better spokesperson than a man who got the state to kill his wife for him...?

But this can't be the only case where realitives disagree on what to do when this horrible choice comes along? Why did this one get so much press?

Great point.

If Michael Schiavo were to run for President, would he make Dennis Kucinich Secretary of Peace, Barbra Streisand Secretary of Culture and Jack Kervorkian Surgeon General? The guy is a low down, dirty bastard, pardon my English. What will happen to him is not my decision, since he has committed to sins: adultery and murder.

So, when I'm feeling hungry, it's really a perception of horror I'm getting, right?

Several doctors asserted her passing should be smooth, yet they gave her sedation meds, just in case. Schiavo's attorney even described her passing as 'peaceful' but every physician that works with pain will tell you, and there some pubs on this, there is no monitor of pain/discomfort that can be viewed externally by others. The theory was her brain was gone and she couldn't really feel anything, but there were very few willing to assert that to a level of 100%.

It's nice you feel so confident that her passing was painfree but the truth is, no one really knows that.

How would you answer this ethical question?

Enemy soldiers have taken over your village. They have orders to kill all remaining civilians. You and some of your townspeople have sought refuge in the cellar of a large house. Outside you hear the voices of soldiers who have come to search the house for valuables. Your baby begins to cry loudly. You cover his mouth to block the sound. If you remove your hand from his mouth, his crying will summon the attention of the soldiers who will kill you, your child, and the others hiding out in the cellar. To save yourself and the others, you must smother and kill your child.

Is it appropriate to smother your child in order to save yourself and the other townspeople?

Any other absolutists out there are welcome to chime in with their answer.

Michael Schiavo fancies himself to be the Cindy Sheehan of the euthanasia movement.

BTW, Kaine is thrilled with the endorsement.

I think you and I have 'discussed' this matter before when Terri was dying. Many people have a surgically implanted feeding tube when they are not dying or brain dead. Sometimes it follows surgery until a patient is able to swallow again. No one was able to say, without a doubt, that Terri was 100% brain dead. If they were sure she didn't realize the horror of what was happening to her, and was not experiencing pain, there would have been no need to administer sedatives or pain meds to her...which they did according to news reports.

"It was not a partisan issue. It was one of conscience", Cantor said. "People will remember that the majority attempted to address a very difficult situation and did it with a real seriousness of purpose".

EXACTLY. Something the internut clowns and other Felos-lovin' freaks will never understand.

According to the firm spokesman, Schiavo issued the statement because "he is interested in getting more involved in the political process".

Hmmmmm. He could add "Vote for Mike" to the other self-promoting crap he put on Terri's gravestone.

Sounds like he's going to use Terry Schiavo's tragedy as a stepping stone to politics.

Now THERE'S a Dem ticket for '08! Similar tactics! Vote Schiavo / Sheehan!
