US and Iraqi forces have launched an offensive along the border with Syria called Operation Steel Curtain involving some 3500 troops, the US military said today.
The goal of the military sweep "is to restore security along the Iraqi-Syrian border and destroy the Al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorist network operating throughout Husaybah, located on the Iraqi-Syrian border," the military said.
The operation involves some 1000 Iraqi army soldiers as well as 2500 Marines, sailors and soldiers.
"Operation Steel Curtain marks the first large-scale employment of multiple battalion-sized units of Iraqi Army forces in combined operations" with US-led forces, the military said.

Good! And I hope Iran is next!!!
It will be interesting to see how the U.S. media reports on this.
What do you want us to do with Damascus?
No sh!t - about time attention is focused that way.
We can only hope. The commander of British forces in Iraq went public with the fact the Iranians are slipping sophisticated explosive devices across the border. These devices are fewer in number than most other kinds of IEDs, but they have a significantly higher casualty rate. At some point, the Iranians need to pay a price for this. The sooner the better.
The pajama media is, however, reporting on it:

Spread the word. "The Fourth Rail" blog by Bill Roggio is probably the best source for news on what is really happening in Iraq in terms of military operations. Bill himself has been invited to visit Iraq later this month, and I can only imagine that his analysis will get even more insightful.
You boys just conjure up out of thin air the troops needed for such an invasion?
God bless them all... I knew this offensive would begin once things were in place... Iran IS next, but I guess it would be too much to wish for Saudia Arabia too.
Oh, I don't know... the Afghans got the picture, as did "Bagdad Bob". You remember, "there are no Americans in Bagdad! ')
The Iranians have been needing to pay a price for their terrorism since November 4, 1979.
Think Sharon.... Think IDF.
They took the Golan and were on the way to Damascus when stopped by the UN.
Taking damascus would not be much of a problem. The Syrian Army is a bunch of wosses
No it wouldn't but our boys are a little busy in Iraq at the moment. We would not go in without overwhelming force and that is not in theater at present.
I look forward to seeing the IRAQI military in action protecting their BORDER...
Major fighting, heavy resistance. According to radio news. News slips past the MSM censors via radio even now.
God Bless OUR soldiers and the IRAQI soldiers as WE HELP them DEFEND themselves....
BTTT
And I look forward to the U.S. Military in action protecting OUR borders.
