Is Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton personally offended by a book poking fun at liberals?
Comments from the New York Democrat's spokesman seem to indicate there might be a problem.
"Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed" skewers a variety of well-known liberals and their philosophy in cartoon fashion, and features a villain who bears an uncanny resemblance to Hillary taxing and regulating a child's lemonade stand.
Last month, the congressional newspaper the Hill quoted Clinton's press secretary Philippe Reines as dismissing the book, which also features look-alikes of fellow liberal icons Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter. Reines was quoted as saying, "[I] can't wait for the sequel, 'Help! Mom! I Can't Read This Book Because Republicans Have Cut Literacy Programs!'"
"It's ironic that Hillary's press secretary would call for more government intrusion into our lives while bashing my book," author Katharine DeBrecht replied at the time. "Who needs parents when you've got bureaucrats in the Department of Education taking care of our kids? Evidently Hillary thinks it takes a village to teach a child to read!"
When asked by the Hill's reporter last week to respond to DeBrecht's remarks, Reines insinuated the book was not selling well. "It's not the liberal under the bed that they should be worried about," he said, "it's the sales that are in the basement."
But the book has consistently been among the top-selling children's books on Amazon.com, and at one point it hit No. 1 on the Barnes & Noble best-seller list. It has been on the market for only six weeks and the publisher is already preparing for a third printing.
In September, radio giant Rush Limbaugh praised the book, stating that Ron Reagan – whom he referred to as an "MSNBC quasi-host" – scolded DeBrecht on his cable television show, and that Alan Colmes, the liberal co-host of Fox News Channel's Hannity & Colmes, claimed her book existed for the purpose of brainwashing. Limbaugh went on to note that the popular Democratic Underground website named DeBrecht to its "Top 10 Conservative Idiots" list, and that the leading left-wing blog Daily Kos likened her book to Nazi propaganda.
"Once again we find conservatives able to be totally honest about who liberals are," said Limbaugh, praising DeBrecht for her observation that liberals oppose religion, traditional families, and the free market because those institutions are obstacles to eliminating personal responsibility and establishing a welfare state. "And I'm telling you, the liberals cringe – they go ape! – when you dare be honest about them. They call it an attack!"
"Our hat is off here to Katharine DeBrecht, the author of 'Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed,'" concluded Limbaugh.

The could easily of dedicated an entire chapter in that new book about liberal hypocrisy that just hit #2 on amazon.com best seller list to Hillary.
I hope she wasn't left out of the book.
She's just eternally angry.
I think it goes way back to her childhood when she was six years old and her father gave her a radio and a toaster as bath toys.

It doesn't take a liberal program to teach children to read. I taught our sons to read before any school, or special program, did. Anyone can do it if they'd just DO IT.
Whenever my 5 year old starts getting whiney, I tell him "Hush, Sam, you sound like a Democrat."
Now he does the same thing to anyone who acts that way around him.

When was in first grade (1948-49) there was no federal literacy program, so they just taught me how to read all by themselves. I feel so sorry for them.
