on November 4, 1980, the voters in 44 states chose Ronald Reagan

And I was one of them - it was my first vote, and one of my most cherished. I doubt I'll ever see a man of Reagan's caliper again in my lifetime.

I remember it well. It was also my first presidential election and I was so excited and proud to go into that booth to vote for Reagan and Bush. When Reagan was declared a winner by 8:15 pm ET it was astonishing! And I was even more stunned that Republicans picked up 12 Senate seats to take a majority.

I revel in that slug Carter's humiliating defeat even more now because since GWB became president he has done nothing but tear down America. To think if he had won in 1980 we'd all probably be speaking Russian today....
