AULNAY-SOUS-BOIS, France, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Rioters set fire to hundreds of vehicles in impoverished suburbs of northeastern Paris in an eighth night of unrest that spread for the first time to other parts of the capital and towns in France.
Local officials said they had lost patience with the government. Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin and his rival, Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, opted for low profiles after days of squabbling over how to handle the crisis.
Police reported fewer clashes than previous nights and residents said the Eid al-Fitr holiday ending Ramadan may have calmed areas with many Muslims of North African and black African origin who feel treated as second-class citizens.
But the rioting spread, with some attacks reported in western Paris suburbs -- including the spectacular burning of 23 buses at a depot -- and a few cars firebombed around Rouen in northern France, Dijon in the east and Marseille in the south.
The pattern of violence also changed, shifting from crowds clashing with police to targeted arson attacks, many against businesses and warehouses.
"I've had enough of this," said an angry woman wearing a headscarf in Aulnay-sous-Bois, a northeastern Paris suburb where a large warehouse was burned down overnight. "This must stop quickly. It's just not right."
Mayors from the riot-hit areas were also exasperated after Villepin briefed them on Thursday evening about an "action plan for the suburbs" he aims to present later this month.
"Many of us told him this isn't the time for an umpteenth plan," said Jean-Christophe Lagarde, mayor of Drancy. "All we need is one death and I think it will get out of control."
"IMMENSE VIOLENCE"

In terms of sending unhappy Muslim immigrants back to their homelands, interestingly, one Muslim rioter in Denmark shouted that he was Palestinian first, despite where he was living. Of course, if Israel didn't exist, they'd have some other beard to hide behind. Hatred of the US and Western Civilization, for instance.
Not intending to change the subject at hand, but what I want to know is, are these people African-Frenchmen, or is that too pc for them?
Soon, the French {paraphrasing Nixon} will be saying, "Now we are all right-wing reactionaries."
I'm utterly laughing my a** off here. The smug French, who brag about their tolerance and their enlightened social sensibilities, are now faced with an intifada of what is basically an invading force determined to colonize France for Islam.
I say let them burn awhile, the burned hand teaches best.
I do wonder though if this is truly random or if more coordinated than we think, or at least fomented by terrorist provacateurs.
Now their new country looks and feels like where they came from. They are animals and should be treated as such.
Prince Charles should hotfoot it over to Paris tout suite. His Muslim pals would welcome him with open arms.
I guess that should have a /sarc tag with it.
I hope this brings an end to Villepin's career and swings support behind Sarkozy.
Apparently, the Islamofascists didn't get the "back channel" memo from the French.
"Small cars ---- small fire."
Will a Citroen burn?
Laissez Paris brûler!!!!!
Le mauvais sentant les français ont des renaults.
couldn't agree more. There are hundreds of poor, and third world countries. They're not rioting! They're toiling to make better lives for their children, and teaching their children that education and hard work is the ticket to properity, not straping on suicide vests. Have to ask ourselves: what is it about this religion that teaches children that killing is the way?
Could it just be that this is about conquest, imposing sharia law, and fostering a seventh century life on the rest of us? It's the only thing that makes sense.
Why, so it will be a bigger mess when it finally erupts?
Its going to happen sooner or later. Now, and there strikes me as being just as good as later, and someplace else.
Why doesn't Reuters call them "insurgents", or maybe "resistance"?
"The pattern of violence also changed, shifting from crowds clashing with police to targeted arson attacks, many against businesses and warehouses."
Doesn't this basically mean that the police have stopped intervening as much?
Before there were crowds rioting and the police were trying to control or arrest them. Now there are crowds rioting and they're burning cars and building, yet there are less clashes with the police.
Isn't that a clear sign that things are getting worse and that the government is farther from having control over the situation?
