And it sounds like Jim Robinson isn't releasing the IP logs absent a subpoena.

Which is as it should be. Even if the logs don't show a WaPo IP logged into MD4BUSH's account, there definately was coordination between the two to make sure the posts were there when the story hit.

This is Jim Robinson's website. Whatever he decides to do is fine with me. I only post here.

I have no idea what the IP logs show or don't show, other than in information from Jim Robinson's public posts.

I would hope he would hesitate mightily to release an IP log.

Steffen was ready to drop the whole thing about MD4BUSH until he found out that the WaPo reporter logged on to FR with MD4BUSH's id. He said he thinks that indicates deeper participation by WaPo than they admit

Good catch. Washington Post is in deep.

Just my personal observations, here...

It went well this morning. Lots of reporters there, at least 5 TV news cameras; most of the reporters needed to be walked through the story and (of course) what FR is. I think they all pretty much "got it" after a few questions.

Of course, they all wanted to know who MD4BUSH is; but Kristinn explained that it wouldn't be coming from FR without a subpoena and other court-type stuff. All members of FR have a right to their personal information being kept private - even when the Freeper has broken his Terms of Use Agreement with FR, as MD4BUSH did. Basically, if FR gives up MD4BUSH's identity without a fight, then any other Freeper's identity is fair game for "outing." Precedent, or some other legal term.

Kristinn made the point with the reporters that the Washington ComPost violated their own reporting Guidelines, in that they did not know (and are still saying that they do not know) the identity of their source, MD4BUSH. They had only one source for the story, MD4BUSH, and he was anonymous even to them. And, somebody else comes to them with "the keys to the backroom" of MD4BUSH's account on FR, and they take them and do a sneak and peek.

He also made the point that with the ComPost having the login information for the MD4BUSH account, who knows whether it was MD4BUSH or a ComPost reporter that was posting under that user name. Lots of other comments and questions, but I don't have a photographic memory. Maybe Unkl Mike can share his recollections from the press conference, too.

I have photos, but won't be able to upload them for a few hours.

I agree. That posting of those freepmails on the forum right before the article came out is what mystifies me the most. Why do it when they already had copies given to them months earlier? Posting them actually makes it look more like collusion and CYA, not less.

Someone also needs to find out who this 'intermediary' to MD4Bush is the WashPost talks about, that gave them the copies of the emails and the log-in information. Bet there is no intermediary, and if there is find out his association with MD4Bush.

Also, the Matthew Mosk said he logged on 3 times to confirm the emails were real. Why 3 times, shouldn't once have been enough? Mosk knew FR could track IP addresses, so he couldn't lie about logging in 3 times. That suggests to me that his logins to 'verify' the emails is a smokescreen.

It all hinges on the IP addresses to know how many players there are and who did what and when.

I also wonder why Steffen was told about the article when the article was going to out him? Seems Mosk played Steffen possibly? I am curious as to the details of those conversations.

Thank you for that wrap up of info.

Who would think that a branch of the MSM would try to entrap Republicans?

Wonder if the WAPO is interested in Senator Schumer's staff members having resigned while under FBI investigation for identity theft of Lt. Gov. Steele?

yes that is sarcasm.

Why 3 times, shouldn't once have been enough?

The freepmail dump was on three different threads and was probably done in case one post got pulled.

FreeRepublic.com is calling for an investigation of the role the Washington Post played in the now infamous exchange that led to the firing of an Ehrlich administration worker.

The Post has disclosed that one of its reporters was given the private sign-on information for a poster known as MD4BUSH. That poster was engaged in a on-line conversation thread with Joseph Steffen, who was later fired for posting about rumors involving Mayor O'Malley.

The operators of the website think the Washington Post reporter's actions may have violated the electronic communications privacy act when he signed on using the MD4BUSH sign-on information.

The Washington Post says it did nothing wrong.

Just got of the phone with WBAL-TV reporter covering the Steffen affair from the beginning. He said they will be having a story on today's events tonight at 6pm. When I asked him about Steffen's comments today "regarding Mikulski" he stated that top management ordered him not to mention the outing of her sexuality. He said he was told "by people at a higher pay scale" not to further spread the rumor but that in light of comments about Steele (oreo cookie) comments this may now be justified to bring up because a dem operative outed another dem.

I read an article recently where the RATS claim the attacks on Michael are not racial because the "N" word was not used. Unbelievable. Man can they spin definitions!

Mike was on Laura Ingram this am. You can sign up to help Mike HERE.

I attended the press conference this morning. Kristinn did a great job of discussing how the WaPo, by their own admission, used an unknown source as the basis of their story. Kristinn didn't get into any of the conspiracy theories, but if the reporters have any sense, they should be able to connect the dots.

Reporters from WBAL and ABC news were present -- also 10 or so print reporters. In all, about 15 reporters were there.

Also met a couple of really nice Freepers.

The news anchor just said that FReepers are marching around the Washington Post HQ.

If he really said that, he was way wrong. No Freeper march this morning. I got there 10 minutes late, but all I saw as I walked up the street was a gaggle of press around Kristinn, all furiously taking notes.

There were a couple of Freepers there (3 or 4?) but nobody was marching around. That part ain't true.
