Family members are investigating what they consider to be suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a nursing home patient at the center of a life and death tug-of-war reminiscent of the Terri Schiavo tragedy.
Seventy-nine-year-old Jimmy Chambers died in the early morning hours of Oct. 24 after the tracheotomy tubes that deliver oxygen from a ventilator to a hole in his neck became unhooked. Family members were told Chambers, a resident of the Anne Maria Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in North Augusta, S.C., apparently pulled the interlocking tubes apart.
"We're having it investigated. We're just incredulous," Chambers' daughter, Deanna Potter, told WND in reference to her siblings. "The last time I saw dad he was blowing me a kiss. I blew him one and he blew one back."
The retired dispatcher for Holland Motor Express died approximately 10 hours later. His death certificate indicates he died of "natural causes."
"Apparently, suffocation is a 'natural cause' when you're on a ventilator. We're contesting that," said Potter. "He suffocated. He didn't just pass away. He struggled and fought. And I'm just so angry."
Potter estimates it would have taken 10 to 14 minutes for her father, deprived of oxygen, to fall unconscious, and questions why the nursing home staff didn't come to his aid.
"The oxygen-saturation meter and his ventilator both would have had alarms going off. Four-thirty, five o'clock in the morning you'd think someone would hear this," she added. "That's the thing that really bothers me and makes me suspicious."

Of course rigging elections are cheaper and more efficient. Just look at Chicago, New York, New Jersey, ad nauseum.
Everything I was brought up to believe in, is just a joke.
I don't know if they'll publicly regret their decision, but maybe privately a creeping doubt will linger in the back of their minds.
I would hate to think that this was a decision borne out of the parents wanting closure on their association with one another. It seems that the family was a good family, and truly did their best for this little boy, so I don't know how they could have ever thought that starving him to death would have been pleasant.
Anytime there's a bioethicist involved, watch out.
Reading that thread I see that nearly everyone can only comprehend the issue in economic terms. How much it will cost, and who pays. And nothing else. I guess that's where our society is at now. Very discouraging.
Does anyone have any spare brain cells they could contribute to this woman?
I didn't know Larry King said that. Why did he not challenge Schiavo immediately? Because Larry King shies away from controversy, IMO. He needs to grow a spine.

episode if they don't think about the reality of a disabled child starving
for 24 days, unto death.
Of course the whole sordid tale had the blessing of
the parent's spiritual leader, Pastor Conn - could a name be more apropos?
A morality tale at Christmas lacking love, hope, faith or
sacrifice - the real reasons for the season.

Allow me to butt in here? I don't know either of you but the subject caught my attention. How does one show their sincerity when suspected of being a troll? One thread I have posted to has been pestered by trolls in the past. Therefore, when a new screen name appears, it apparently triggers immediate suspicion.
The alienation by some sends a message: "No newcomers welcome."
I decided that I don't need that c__p and in a very civil way, I bowed out.
That was followed by some of the FReepers on the thread asking me to stay...trolls have been attracted to the thread...in effect, they are leery, but now know I am not a troll.
The humorous side of this is, I didn't even KNOW what "troll" meant until I joined Free Republic. I posted to a topic, one which I had been following in the news.
I didn't need the written assaults and meanness I encountered by a few egomaniacs so I gave it up. They won.

Torture is their pornography. Human sacrifice in the form or abortion and euthanasia are their sacraments.
Very well said. That statement should be heard loud and often. You put their deeds into proper perspective - that truly is their mission statement .
You didn't direct your post to me. I've been named as a troll, also, though the accusation is baseless, false.
As to Michael Schiavo, all the information put forth indicates he WAS at home when Terri suffered her problem. I detest the guy, wouldn't trust him to help me across a street, and I surely believe he is a liar. That does NOT mean that every word out of his mouth is a lie. Terri's father, and brother who lived in the same building, have reason to believe he was home at the time.
Liars---I fear them for the destruction they can reap on innocent people. Most liars don't sink to that depth. Many lie for stupid reasons, like trying to pump themselves up, shore up their weak egos.
My reaction is: Don't lie to me. Don't insult my intelligence. I can see right through the lies.
My opinion of the NO disaster, from all I've read, amounts to the negligence of the local politicos. They failed to do their jobs and quickly blamed the Feds.
Oh, how easy it is to lie one's way out of blame.

I have to think that the live-in mother of their two children shares his views.
She had better pray that neither she nor their children become incompacitated. Michael will determine whether they are "still alive" or are "already dead". Again, enter George Felos.
